Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle VelMartin.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into graphic design began with a lifelong love for art. From a young age, I was drawn to creativity and continued to refine my artistic skills over the years. What truly captivated me about graphic design was the ability to use art to make an impact — helping businesses express their identity and connect with their audiences. I’m especially passionate about branding and marketing, and I love guiding businesses in discovering and shaping their visual voice.
During college, I explored motion graphics on my own before eventually taking a motion design class that opened up an entirely new medium for me to fall in love with. Most of my professional experience started in print design, where I learned the ins and outs of creating books, posters, stickers, and other static designs. Beginning in pre-press print design as a freshman, I quickly adapted my creative skills to the technical demands of printing, guided by a great mentor who set me on the right path.
Balancing school and work, I also began freelancing and eventually started my own design business. I’m deeply grateful for my early clients, who helped me grow as both a designer and a professional. Today, my work bridges emotion and logic — blending artistic expression with strategic thinking to create designs that inspire and communicate effectively.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Balancing work, school, and starting my own business was one of the most challenging times in my journey. There were many late nights and early mornings, and moments when burnout felt close. Despite the exhaustion, I kept pushing forward, motivated by my passion for design and my desire to grow. I focused on learning as much as I could, honing my skills, and finding ways to strengthen my creative abilities.
It took several months of trial and error to find a schedule that truly worked for me, but once I did, I began to feel more in control and confident in managing my time. Those difficult months tested my limits but ultimately shaped my discipline, resilience, and time management skills — qualities that continue to guide me in both my professional and personal life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in creating meaningful, visually compelling designs that help businesses define and elevate their brands. My work blends creativity with strategy — combining emotion and logic to craft designs that connect with audiences and communicate a clear message.
My expertise lies in branding and marketing design, where I help businesses discover and express their unique identity through thoughtful visuals and cohesive brand systems. I have a strong background in print design and digital design. In addition, I’ve expanded my skill set into motion design, a field that allows me to bring stories and brands to life through movement and animation. Whether working on print, digital, or motion-based projects, I aim to create designs that are not only visually striking but also purposeful and impactful.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
A big part of my growth as a designer has come from my dedication to continuous learning. Beyond my college education, I took the initiative to expand my skills through platforms such as Skillshare, YouTube, and LinkedIn Learning. These resources gave me the opportunity to explore new design tools, techniques, and trends at my own pace while balancing work and school.
Through these platforms, I deepened my understanding of motion design, branding, and marketing strategies. I also learned how to adapt to different design challenges and refine my workflow. This self-taught journey helped me stay creative, resourceful, and curious — qualities that continue to shape how I approach each project.
