Meet Greg Taylor of Bass Pluckers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Taylor.

Greg Taylor

Hi Greg, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career started in the film industry for 30 years, and playing bass in bands for most of my life. The store started 6 years ago when I retired from film, and I knew I needed to do something to keep me busy. All my life you would go in music stores and there was 80 guitars and usually about 5 basses. It was so frustrating to try to find a selection of basses anywhere. I always talked about wanting an all-bass store but wasn’t sure where to start until a friend Eddie Benton who had Guitar Pickers at the time said you need to do this. So, without me knowing he got me a small room for dirt cheap and supplied me with a handful of consignment basses and amps from his store and the rest is history. I started with about 7 basses and 6 years later over 100 basses and 50 amps. My first job that I love coming to work every day and supplying the up-and-coming bassist with a great bass at a workingman’s price. My wife Sonja and I feel Blessed every day with this opportunity.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Finances are always a roadblock for small business so in the beginning trying to get consignment basses and purchase enough basses to get people in the store because there was always more money going out then coming in but after 6 years, we’ve finally built up a great client base to keep going. We have sold basses all over the US and Europe.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bass Pluckers?
My wife and I are the sole owners of Bass Pluckers that is all things Bass. Basses, Amps, strings, etc. Because of our store being mostly pre-owned we are able to sell over 50 brands of basses without being dictated to by the big wholesale companies on what to stock. We and a proud small business that believe in personalized service to each customer who many are or have become great friends.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Don’t give up on your passion because hard work actually does pay off.
