Today we’d like to introduce you to Gurmay Fraser.
Hi Gurmay, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Guyana, South America. At 3 months old, I was poison and rape at age 4 years several times a week for months. Came to the USA at age 16 years and lived in NY. I am a mother, and I have 2 adult professional children. Attended and graduated from high school, undergraduate, and graduate college. Got married and was abuse by my ex-husband while in NY and when we transition to Georgia. Ran from Georgia to NC 17 years ago when I was instructed by God. I am a Psychotherapist and realized that many of my clients were also abuse and voiceless. I became their voice.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been smooth. I was abandoned by my father at age 2 and by many of my family when I decided to write books, “Love Me or Leave Me” and “My Journey to Spiritual Restoration,” as I identified my abuse and the abuse of others. I had to trust God and become my own cheerleader.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Psychotherapist, and I love working with individuals, couples, and families, helping them to identify their struggles and providing them with tools to reduce and, at times, overcome their traumas and mental health challenges. I am also a Mentor and Coach. I thought special education for many years, and I’ve also thought Marketing and Entrepreneurship in high school in NC.
Gurmay E. Fraser; DBA-Learner, LCAS-A, LCSW, MSW, MSIM, IEMS. I would so that I am known for kindness, compassion, non-judgment, meeting people where they are, and assisting them to identify and to get to where they want to be. I am proud that I have never given up even when I was thrown out of college and was told that I don’t have the capacity to learn. I am set apart because I believe who God says that I am. I was told that I will not be able to learn. I met me where I was, set and accomplish goal, and I found what was working for me, and I use that to overcome any deficits and never give up or give in.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I love life. I am simple and enjoy moments of the things and people that are like-minded like me. I don’t have to prove anything to anyone, only to me, to become the best version of myself, my best health: mental and physical.
