Today, we’d like to introduce you to Heather Jones . Heather was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Christina Kirkey.
Heather , thank you so much for joining us today. We’d love for you to bring our readers up to speed – can you introduce yourself and share your story?
I had always dreamed of being in the beauty industry and knew from a very young age that it would be my passion. I graduated high school a semester early so that I could enroll in the Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School and get started on my career right away. Once completed, I was offered a scholarship to come back and learn to become a cosmetology instructor. I worked with the Paul Mitchell Schools in Gastonia and Charlotte for 8 years and built up my clientele in the salon before moving to Raleigh, NC. Here, I met Christina and became a part of the Pinup Studio family! At first I worked in the salon and part time growing our Bridal Freelance team. After Covid19 shut down majority of the weddings happening in 2020, the wedding boom began and with it our small freelance team grew significantly! I now work full time as our Bridal and Event Coordinator and manage a team of 18 women!
Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
I manage a freelance bridal team of hair and makeup artists that specialize in wedding and event styles in the RDU and surrounding areas. Our team is large and diverse, meaning we can take on smaller or larger wedding parties, multiple weddings in the same day and any style or theme you can think of. We care deeply about continuing education and plan for multiple classes throughout the year for our professionals to stay up to date on the latest trends. I have always enjoyed being in the beauty industry but never expected to be so in love with the wedding industry! It’s truly so exciting helping bride’s connect with their beauty team and watching their special day play out.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Christina Kirkey and Pinup Studio and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Pinup Studio .
I first connected with Christina over instagram in late 2019. I had just moved to the area and was searching for a salon home that empowered women, being inclusive, and was interested in their employee’s growth professionally and personally. She wasn’t looking to hire another stylist, but a bridal coordinator so we chatted about the opportunity. Ultimately, I ended up doing both and grew my clientele in the salon in about 2 years and grew our bridal team thanks to her trust in me!
Pinup Studio is not just a salon or a space where many women gather to make other’s feel beautiful but its a safe space for people to come to feel loved, connect with others and make lifelong friends. Our team celebrates each other’s victories, life goals, and personal goals. We’re there for each other through hard times and the good times. This includes our client’s. Being a hair stylist is so much more than being the person who cuts your hair. We go through each of our client’s lives with them, remembering milestones, being there for weddings, babies, divorces, deaths and everything in between.
Christina has worked extremely hard to create a place for growth, love and inclusivity for her employees and each guest that walks in the doors.
