Today we’d like to introduce you to Isis Kelly Telombila

Hi Isis Kelly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Isis Kelly Telombila-Mouanga. I was born in New York but raised in Raleigh, NC. I come from a Congolese background. My parents are from Congo (both Congo’s) Democratic and Republic side of Congo. I am the oldest of six. I have five siblings that come after me. During my childhood, I helped my parents a lot with my siblings, such as cooking, babysitting, and being there to fill in any gaps needed. Although I was born in the U.S. my childhood was mixed with traditions and rules rooted in my parent’s culture, sometimes I did not understand. Every day my parents made an effort to raise us according to the Congolese values they were also raised on. Due to my parents raising us with their cultural values, I also learned how to communicate in their languages French, English, Lingala, and Kilari.

Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to be someone impactful but I didn’t know how specifically. Due to me not knowing how I wanted to be impactful, I always just tried my best in everything I did. As I grew, I developed a strong desire for fashion when I was in high school. I joined a sewing class and I was able to learn how to sew and make small things. As my high school journey started to come to an end I had to think about what I should seriously consider doing as a career. I was excited because this was finally the opportunity for me to pursue something that would assist me in being impactful in the real world.

After I won several scholarships in High School (Millbrook High School), I decided to go to UNCP. At UNCP, I found my true self without anyone in my ear. I originally wanted to pursue being a Physician Assistant but after not doing well in simple biology, As a Christian, I prayed and told God (Jesus Christ) that there was no way I could spend my college years failing something I could not understand. No matter how hard I tried, I didn’t get good testing scores in Biology. At the time, my mind could not grasp Biology.

After praying, I thought to myself, that I am good at math and I also speak different languages. From then I changed my route and decided to pursue international business. when I changed my major to international business I was at peace.

During my senior year of college, I was having a conversation with a friend of mine and they were informing me of how challenging it can be to find a job and that it would be safe going in to the job market with a business that I can fall back on in case I don’t get a job in time. I shared with him that I did always think about doing real estate. My dad took me to a real estate seminar, like two years prior and although I was not in the position to be in real estate, it was always in the back of my mind that one day I would pursue it.

My friend at the time encouraged me to just go for it now, I thought it wasn’t a good time because my priority at the time was trying to finish college. I did not let that stop me, I did my research and knew it could be for me, and from there I fasted and prayed about it for three days. I wanted to make sure, that this is something that God wanted me to do as well.

I asked God that I didn’t know anyone personally and that he needed to give me someone who would be able to guide me in this new career that was aligned with him spiritually and successfully so that I could learn how to be excellent in real estate. I move forward with taking my real estate pre-licensing course while still being a senior in undergrad (UNCP) and I passed the class but still needed to take the NC and National Real Estate Exam.

By the grace of God, I sent Kendra Conyers a DM asking if she needed an assistant. She said no and then later on needed an assistant and hired me. Although it was a win for me this is where the roller coaster started. I got in an accident the same week I was hired. while I was trying to pass my real estate exam, I was working as Kendra’s assistant. At the end of the semester of Spring 2021, I graduated with a Bachelor’s in International Business. Even after I graduated I failed my real estate exam and decided I wanted to not pursue real estate anymore and I’ll stick with Plan A and get a job. I ended up getting a real estate assistant office Job, where I was able to review real estate contracts and see brokerage activity.

After this experience, my manager at the time encouraged me to take my real estate exam again. So I did, this time I passed the state but failed the national. Then I went for the fourth time about 2 weeks late and I prayed and said as I am entering the testing room, I will come out with a passed test. I passed my real estate exam and from there I became a realtor. I have sold over 1.8 million worth of real estate. I am able to communicate with different backgrounds due to my Congolese background and learning Spanish during school. Everyday I find myself helping someone get closer to their home ownership dream and I educate people on the daily why real estate is beneficial. I love real estate and at this point, I don’t think I chose real estate, but real estate chose me to be an impactful person in my environment.
