Hi Jackie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Home for Entertaining began as a shared dream for my family. My mom, Vicky, built a career creating beautiful homes with her design firm, Southern Studio Interior Design. She often found that when her clients’ projects wrapped up, they were eager to start hosting, but weren’t quite sure where to begin. Around the same time, I was building my own career focused on customer success. After graduating from Elon University with a degree in mathematics education, my first “customers” were 13-year-old algebra students. Later, I transitioned into the educational technology industry, helping schools and districts succeed in implementing technology resources. Even as my professional life evolved, I always had a love for retail—working in boutiques on the side as a fun way to connect with people (and fund my shopping habits). When we combined my passion for retail and customer experience with my mom’s expertise in designing homes meant for gathering, Home for Entertaining was born for our family. My sister-in-law, Megan, and I now run Home for Entertaining. Together, we’ve created a space that celebrates the art of hosting, bringing people together through thoughtful space, beautiful pieces, and meaningful experiences.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth would be boring. Like any small business, there have definitely been some unexpected bumps along the way. You can’t predict or prepare for tricky freight deliveries gone wrong, surprise town construction and road closures, and the learning curve that comes with being a bookkeeper and payroll department. It’s often those behind-the-scenes challenges, or the parts no one sees from the outside, that end up teaching you the most and making you grow!
