Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacquelyn Garcia.
Hi Jacquelyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been a therapist for the past 18 years. Last summer I decided I wanted to open my own practice. I wanted to create a place where people felt heard and understood. I envisioned a place where children and adults felt seen. I decided on the name Encuentros Family Therapy PLLC, because it was simple. This is a place to simply meet. There would be no need to clean up or perform. I always want my clients to feel known and understood without needing to meet some arbitrary expectation. I want them to know they are enough. It has been an unbelievable privilege to be allotted the opportunity to walk alongside people in difficult times and see them find healing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been relatively smooth. There was a learning curve learning how to navigate insurances and the business aspects of Encuentros. In any case, I have such an amazing network of incredible humans who were eager to provide support along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of Encuentros Family Therapy PLLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a clinical therapist that specializes in trauma and working with children, adolescents and adults. I have worked a lot with children in foster care and individuals who have experienced trauma during migration. I am trained in several evidence based therapeutic modalities. I take a more direct client centered approach to treatment. I believe people are experts in their own lives and in the right context have what they need to heal. I am proud that Encuentros has become a place where people feel welcomed and safe. I am bilingual in Spanish/English and love working with diverse populations.
What does success mean to you?
I think success can be difficult to define. Do I hope that my business in profitable? Of course. However, I think success for me is more defined as “Did it matter?” If my business provided a space for someone to heal and become the best version of themselves I think I have achieved success.
