Hi Jamelle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well, my story goes back to being involved in a local consulting firm. At the time, I was an associate and helping the team service their clients. It was fun and I was learning a lot. However, at the time I was convinced that I would end up in the world of finance. As time went on, I was having a conversation with my boss that really changed the course of my life. I had heard about purpose before and I knew in some ways what my purpose was. I remember leaving the office that day and saying that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I thought I could possibly be a financial advisor and maybe one day own a firm. Fast forward a few months and I had this idea about creating a life coaching business. This was many years ago and life coaching was very popular at the time. So I started looking into what it would take to start the business. When I launched the life coaching business, I was excited and nervous all at the same time. I remember some people congratulating me on this new chapter in my life while others criticized me. I was told I was a dreamer, too ambitious, and that my vision was unrealistic. Honestly, my first few years in business were tough and it is a miracle that I made it. The first few years were very difficult and I remember getting ready to shut the business down. During this time, I was able to have some important conversations with several of my mentors. One of my mentors told me that they did not think I needed to give up the business just yet and they gave me some wisdom. Over the course of six months, I totally rebranded my business. I was no longer a life coaching business. Jamelle Sanders International became a management consulting firm. I changed my products and services, relaunched my website and something amazing happened. The business started to turn around, major doors started to open and I learned a very important lesson. I learned that without clarity you will cripple the success of your business. When you operate with clarity you will attract the right customers and clients, find the problem that your business solves, and become profitable in your industry. Now, Jamelle Sanders International is a management consulting firm serving clients in the public and private sectors and bringing world-class solutions to complex global problems.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As I stated before, this journey of entrepreneurship has not been easy for me. I wish I could tell you that everything was easy and that it was smooth. However, I am one of the few entrepreneurs who will be very honest with you about my journey. My business almost collapsed on three separate occasions, I had treacherous business partners who betrayed me, critics who mocked me, and self-doubt that almost destroyed my dreams. I am a lot wiser than I was all those years ago. I have learned that you should never create a business without clarity. A business without identity will struggle to stay in existence. In addition, I learned that wrong relationships will sabotage your business and your future. You cannot build the right business with the wrong people. Trust your gut and exercise strong discernment. When people reveal their true motives and intentions do not overlook it or override it. Most of all, stop allowing people who have never traveled your path to tell you what is possible for your life. You have to have self-belief as well. This is the cornerstone for success in all of your endeavors. I share these battles not to discourage you but to show you the blindspots that have the potential to derail you as an entrepreneur and leader. Everyone shows you the glamor of business but nobody shows you the struggles or the battle scars. Entrepreneurship has taught me so much about myself and how to trust myself. I’ve learned how to make empowered decisions, the importance of assembling a cabinet of advisors around you to help you in those moments of crisis, and the importance of thinking big and daring to think outside of the box.

In addition, I do not simply provide case studies and scientific theories. I am well-versed in the art of leadership and have helped to train and develop leaders all around the world. The thing that I am most proud of in terms of my brand is the global footprint that my work has around the world. I have been recognized as a Huff Post Icon Next and won numerous awards for excellence in leadership. In addition, I have had the privilege of mentoring leaders in business, politics, entertainment, media, arts, etc. I am proud of the integrity of my brand and that it is respected in both sacred and secular circles. My leadership is trusted and I am proud that my work continues to be recognized all around the globe. In addition to this, I have written thirteen books, delivered powerful keynotes and I host a podcast that empowers leaders all around the world. JSI is all about the development and maximization of human potential.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I have always been a bookworm and an intellectual. My childhood friends will tell you that I have always been interested in learning, books, education, and making a difference in the world. In fact, my best friend growing up told me that I have always had a way with words. He was not shocked that I am recognized as a master communicator and that my words have inspired and empowered people all around the globe. I’ve always enjoyed reading, writing, researching, communicating, serving, and leading in various capacities. While I will admit that I was very shy growing up, it seems like leadership has always seemed to follow me. In school, I was always the one that everyone wanted to speak for and represent groups. I was one of the people that everyone believed would be successful. It is amazing how purpose has been speaking to us our entire lives. Most people just never pay attention to it. From as early as I can remember, I have been passionate about leadership and serving others. I never imagined that I would be doing some of the things that I am doing today. However, I realize now that there are talents, gifts, and abilities that we are born with. They are all in potential form but in the right environment those gifts can be cultivated and we can realize our greatest potential. I have always been fascinated with learning and the mind. So it is not a surprise that I am a respected thought leader and that people all around the world value my thoughts and insights. The things that I was passionate about ultimately led me to my purpose.
