Meet Jamilla S Robertson of Rocky Mount

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamilla S Robertson.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
I am Jamilla! I’m a single mother of 2 born in Brooklyn, NY. I spent much of my childhood transitioning between Brooklyn, New York, and Nashville, North Carolina. By the time I turned 18, I experienced the pain of losing my grandparents, my parents, and a half-brother. “Life” taught me to be strong when faced with adversity, mentally and spiritually. The Army taught me to be strong physically. I spent 3 years in the United States Army and 3 years in the National Guard. After my military time expired, I transitioned back home to Rocky Mount, NC. I received my formal education from Edgecombe Community College and North Carolina Wesleyan College, where I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

I’m most widely known today for being a minister of the gospel, a motivational speaker, a 2X published author, an encouraging voice, a mom, a soon-to-be wife, and a great friend to many. I passionately believe that ministry starts at home. I devote a lot of time to my women’s group: Sister’s Let’s Giv’Em them Something 2 Talk About. This group meets every month to encourage women to live a more excellent life spiritually and naturally, and to change the narrative of what people say from negative to positive. People are going to talk, so we just as well, “Giv’em Something to Talk About” (positive things though)! I am also a faithful and devoted leader to my church, Rise Church, Rocky Mount, NC. I thrive in being a humble servant of the Lord and believe that my story proves that success is NOT about resources. It’s about being resourceful and ambitious. It’s about pressing forward despite life’s challenges and nay-sayers. I know that God has called me to serve as a motivational force to help further push women to find out who they were created to be and for what reason He put them on this Earth in the first place. Earning the title “midwife” to many people, I continuously challenge women across the country to birth the visions given to them. And I will never stop!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Quite honestly, every calling comes with challenges; however, I cannot sit and say that I keep count of them. I view every obstacle as just another way God strengthens me for the path ahead. I’d say my biggest challenge is reaching the masses that I know I am here to touch – but I am well on my way and look forward to reaching uplifting ad women across the Globe.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
While I host a wide array of events, one of my most anticipated events is the Annual Sister’s Let’s Giv’Em Something 2 Talk About Women’s Empowerment! Each year, I curate a day of networking, sisterhood, heavy-hitting panels, and candid conversations for women of all creeds. Even during the pandemic, I safely gathered over 300 women together to be led and inspired by former Miss USA Deshauna Barber, along with a powerful panel of speakers and coaches!

This year will be even better as I am gearing up to host approx 1,000 women on Saturday, September 24th, 2022, at the Keihin Auditorium in Tarboro, NC (on the campus of Edgecombe Community College) with the world-renowned keynote speaker and best-selling author, Dr. Cheryl Wood. This event also offers amazing entertainment. Sponsorship marketing, brunch with Dr. Wood for our VIP guests, food truck exhibitions, and exclusive vendor marketplace opportunities allow those businesses to be marketed and seen worldwide through our sites, social media, and radio network! We are taking things up a notch with the most powerful panel of motivational speakers, experts and coaches targeting mental health.

I have worked hard to create a life-changing, impactful event while keeping ticket prices affordable (even VIP tickets are less than a night out on the town)! So, I am excited to gather women together for this event. I wish I could host more than 1,000, but this is our limit for this year’s venue, so we are encouraging women to purchase their tickets asap through Eventbrite!

What characteristic of yours would you give the most credit if you had to?
I am grateful that I have been gifted with many talents, but I am one who is widely  known for being resourceful. As a leader and mentor to many women, I am often known as the hand on their backs, continuously pushing them forward to greatness and helping them to tap into the people they were called to be and maximize their full potential. Making connections and networking with like-minded people is extremely important to me. I am a learner and want to absorb as much as possible, so I can position myself to help my fellow sister come up. I firmly believe, “When women support each other, incredible things happen!”
