Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Lim.
Hi Jasmine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I was younger, my parents would always brew a large pot of Vietnamese coffee every morning and the bright aroma of coffee would fill the house. That daily ritual quickly became a comforting and familiar part of my life, and over time, I developed a love for coffee. I started as a home-barista, crafting espresso-based drinks, homemade syrups, lemonades, and all kinds of things in my tiny kitchen apartment. I loved the idea of experimenting with unique flavors and wanted to combine my passion for coffee and creativity into something that my friends and family could share with me. After years of research, learning, trial and error, and with a strong support system, Sweet Talk Cafe opened its doors on May 27, 2023.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely been a journey from when the cafe first opened to now. There is always a need for flexibility and adaptability, because all kinds of problems arise when you least expect it. One of the hardest aspects of running a business is learning how to structure your systems so that everything runs smoothly, and training the team so that everyone is prepared for any accidents or unprecedented mishaps. There have been several times where we have to quickly solve an issue and create a backup plan that works.

Sweet Talk Cafe is a minority- and woman-owned small business located in Apex, NC. As the owner, I oversee all aspects of our operations, including inventory management, staff training, marketing, and business development. Much of my focus is on curating new menu items and developing unique, delicious recipes.
We’re known for our creative flavor combinations and our mission to inspire customers to explore something new and unexpected. Signature items like our Croffles, Sweet Talk Latte, Black Sesame Latte, and Strawberry Matcha Latte highlight our Asian-inspired flavors and our commitment to promoting cultural diversity through our menu.
Sweet Talk Cafe serves specialty coffee alongside a variety of not-too-sweet desserts like croffles and bingsoo—treats inspired by Asian desserts. Our goal is to create a cozy, welcoming space where people can relax, connect, and enjoy new flavors together.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Working on ways to grow the cafe and build our community is important to me. Whether it’s hosting events, introducing new seasonal drinks, or simply providing a welcoming space for people to gather, my goal is to make Sweet Talk Cafe a meaningful part of our community’s daily life.
