Meet Jasmyn Blanchard of The Refillery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmyn Blanchard.

Jasmyn Blanchard

Hi Jasmyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
This all started with our youngest daughter. When she was little, she had very bad skin, the doctors just gave us a steroid cream and after that we started looking into different options. We started using lots of goat milk products and changed all of our household products. Shortly after that, someone I followed on Instagram opened a refill shop a couple of hours away from us, and I became super interested in learning more about low-waste living. We visited a few and then we wanted to take the leap and try it, we started with some pop-ups and now we’re here!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When we first opened, it was a little rough for a few months. We had just moved halfway across the country and decided to open a storefront. So, not knowing anyone or the area definitely made things a little harder for us. But we have met so many new people that want to see us succeed!

As you know, we’re big fans of The Refillery Co. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
The Refillery Co is Wilmington’s first and only low-waste refill shop. The goal for the shop is to help others reduce their plastic waste but also give them access to clean products. Customers can bring in their own containers or use one that we have available and then refill on everyday products. We have about 45 different refill options: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, laundry detergent, dish soap, etc. We also have some fun workshops like shower steamers, and I’m hoping in the new year to be able to provide some more informational workshops.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I wish someone had told me to just go for it. It took me almost a year to actually fully convince myself that this is something I need to do, or at least try. I’d rather do it and possibly fail than not do it at all and never know what could have come from it. I’ve also had a lot of help from the start from some other great people that own refill shops all over the States. Without them I wouldn’t have known how to even start.
