Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Sluzewski.
Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been drawn to creative storytelling, our collective human experience, and the stories that connect us. As an introverted intuitive, I’m deeply curious about the world around us, and I think that curiosity has shaped almost every chapter of my life so far. I believe that being a creative is deeply ingrained in the fabric of our souls, and it’s integral to living an authentic, fulfilling life, even when things get hard.
After graduating from James Madison University with a degree in Media Arts and Design, I imagined a career in broadcast journalism or music at a time when the landscape of those industries was changing dramatically. The first few years post-graduation were humbling, to say the least. Like many creatives in their youth, I quickly awakened to the reality of walking a creative path that doesn’t fit neatly into society’s ideals. I was hungry to build an exciting, creatively inspiring life and struggled to find my place in the professional world at first. It was this struggle that allowed me to take risks that would change my life’s trajectory in ways I never imagined.
A few years after graduating, I stumbled upon an opportunity to travel the world on cruise ships as a Port & Shopping Guide, giving lectures and leading several marketing efforts onboard. This experience was transformational in immeasurable ways. It opened my eyes to so many new places, cultures, perspectives, and unexpected friendships I’ll never forget. I was forced to grow while also witnessing the transformative effects that taking chances can have on your life. It was also validation that creative, inspiring paths in life are possible when you’re resilient and refuse to give up on yourself.
My career in writing took off shortly after my years at sea, starting with small freelance writing projects and, eventually, full-time contract work as a brand writer and content manager for the fast-growing supplement brand Primal Harvest. This opportunity felt like I had found a way to bring all the different pieces of myself together. What started with email copywriting grew into a full-time content and editorial career. At the height of the pandemic, I transitioned into agency work at Jellyfish, where I had the opportunity to write editorial content for some incredible beauty, health, and pharmaceutical brands. From there, my work continued to evolve, eventually leading me to roles at L’Oréal’s SalonCentric and now Royal Caribbean as a UI/UX copywriter, which I’d call my absolute “pinch-me” dream role.
Along the way, writing has become the outlet that allows me to connect with the world in deep and meaningful ways. I’m always pushing myself to evolve both personally and professionally, even when it’s challenging or uncomfortable. My work has continued to expand into content strategy, SEO/GEO, and most recently, conversational AI and conversation design. I don’t think I could have imagined that this would be my story today, but I also think that’s what makes it worthwhile. I’ve always wanted to understand human connection, tell meaningful stories, and create things that make people feel something, and I’m grateful for the opportunities that have allowed me to do this on a daily basis.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. I’ve spent a decent amount of my career trying to find my place in a field that can be incredibly competitive and even ruthless at times. Creative professions like mine can be immensely fulfilling, but they can also bring instability, layoffs, uncertain career paths, unrealistic expectations, and massive self-doubt. As my career has progressed, I’ve had to overcome imposter syndrome and learn that I don’t have to be the loudest person in the room to prove my value as a creator and storyteller.
Entering new or unfamiliar spaces as a writer can be very daunting, especially given the incredible talent in New York City and other metro areas I’ve lived in. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that resilience is everything in creative fields. I’ve had to continue learning, adapting, starting over, and believing in myself even when the next step wasn’t obvious. I believe that I’m where I am today because I kept going, no matter what.
Being a writer isn’t always the easiest or most predictable path, but it’s what feeds my soul. I think sometimes resilience is simply refusing to give up on the part of yourself that knows what you’re meant to be doing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a writer, editor, and content strategist with more than 10 years of experience creating content and digital experiences for brands in beauty, health, travel, and lifestyle. These days, my work sits at the intersection of storytelling, strategy, technology, and human behavior. I currently work as a UI/UX copywriter for Royal Caribbean, where I help shape the words and experiences that guests encounter throughout their vacations.
My fascination with human connection sits at the heart of everything I do. I’ve always been deeply interested in psychology and what makes us think, feel, and behave the way we do. Whether I’m writing an article, shaping a brand voice, or figuring out how a customer will interact with a digital experience, I’m always imagining the person on the other side of the words.
I’m probably best known for bringing empathy and intuition to my work while still thinking strategically about the end goal of what I’m creating. I care deeply about creating experiences that feel undeniably human as AI becomes a bigger part of how we communicate and create.
What I’m most proud of is the evolution of my career itself. I’ve been able to take something that started with a God-given love of writing and turn it into a career that touches editorial, brand storytelling, digital strategy, UX, and now emerging AI experiences. I think what sets me apart is that I’ve found a way to stay true to my authentic self throughout the ups and downs of my journey. I’ve followed my intuition and taken leaps of faith that others around me might not have understood at the time. Creativity requires constant self-growth and awareness, and I hope my work allows readers to feel something beautiful or see something in a new way.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I’d say it’s probably a combination of curiosity and perseverance.
I’ve always had a deep need to understand things, especially people. I’m constantly asking why something works the way it does, what motivates someone, or whether there’s another way of looking at a problem. That curiosity is what fuels my creativity, my passion for traveling, and my desire to explore unconventional paths to success. It’s taken me into completely unexpected places throughout my career and has kept me open to learning and evolving as the world around me changes.
When things don’t work out, perseverance is what allows us creatives to start over, take another risk, or follow a path that isn’t guaranteed. I’ve had plenty of moments when I didn’t know which direction to go in next, but I’ve learned to trust the process and believe that the only real failure is giving up on myself. You don’t always need to have the whole picture before taking the next step, as nerve-wracking as that can be.
I think that’s ultimately what has carried me forward: staying curious enough to keep growing and resilient enough to keep going through the difficult and uncertain moments.
