Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerolyn & Erik Hamer.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hamer’s Props and Party started during the pandemic—right in the middle of all the uncertainty. At the time, I was working in healthcare as a marketing assistant, and my husband, Erik, was working as a building engineer. Like so many people, that season gave me a chance to pause and think about what I really wanted out of life.
With a little extra time and a lot of encouragement from Erik, I made the decision to step away from my 9-to-5 and figure out what was next. I didn’t have all the answers at first, but I kept coming back to this idea of creativity, events, and making things feel special. That’s when it clicked—Erik’s carpentry skills and my creative direction could come together to build something unique.
We noticed there weren’t many options locally for high-quality, custom event rentals—especially things like backdrops, marquees, and personalized props. So we decided to fill that gap. What started small has grown into something we’re really proud of. We’ve built strong relationships in the event space, and every piece we create still comes with the same care and intention we had from the beginning.
Now, we’re continuing to grow, stretch creatively, and “prop up” events in ways that feel fun, thoughtful, and memorable.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has been a learning experience. We are still learning every day, Being a first-generation business owner also meant navigating everything from branding to operations without a blueprint. Despite the hurdles, we’ve stayed committed to growth, learning, and building strong industry relationships that keep us moving forward.
