Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Linn.
Hi Jessica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got married and had my first baby pretty young, so I was launched into adulthood without any idea of what I wanted to do or be. The only constant I always had was my love of clothing. My husband actually convinced me to start blogging in 2014. I was dealing with postpartum depression pretty badly and the only thing that really excited me was new clothes (haha)!
He told me since I liked clothing so much I should start sharing my outfits and writing about them. He set up my first site for me and everything. That was a different blog that I eventually rebranded to Linn Style (my sad attempt at making a pun with my name). He’s still my number 1 supporter and takes 99.99% of my pictures.
My blog led to me opening my online boutique, Copper Bloom. Fashion has given me so many opportunities that I could have only imagined. Growing up in a small town in a single-wide trailer I didn’t really think I would have a lot of options when it came to my future but working in social media showed me that anything is possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is nothing smooth about running your own business and especially dealing with social media. Some of my biggest obstacles have been my mown mindset. It’s hard not to compare yourself to other people on social media. I’ve had to work on just keeping my focus on what I’m doing and not feeling insecure and defeated because someone else is “more successful.”
Since I started my blog I have added two more little ones to the family and those two pregnancies hit me hard! I was so sick and had to take time away from my website and social media both times. My traffic really took a couple of hits but we’ve been able to get back on track!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a personal style/lifestyle blogger and a boutique owner. I run two blogs but my main focus has been my personal style blog.
When I first tried blogging in 2014 it was still pretty new and all the fashion bloggers I saw at the time were more high fashion with a lot of expensive pieces. It didn’t feel very approachable to me and I wanted my page to feel welcoming to everyone so turned it more into a lifestyle page to share real-life stories and outfits that were approachable.
I’m really proud of the fact that I have had to come out of my shell. I was so shy and insecure growing up, it honestly still surprises me that putting myself out there is what I chose to do. It makes absolutely no sense if you knew me as a child haha but I really love connecting with my audience in my DMS and I want to show others that if I can make money doing something I love then anyone can!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve learned a lot about myself in general. I used to think I didn’t care what people thought of me but mean comments will make you question things real fast!
I’ve been working on just being myself, not trying to be like other bloggers I admire, and just being okay with not everyone liking me.
