Meet John Chester of Ladder & Bucket

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Chester.

John Chester

Hi John, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My brother Matt and I had always talked about starting a business together. As fate would have it just as I was ready to transition out of the roofing industry, Matt was in a similar place with the medical field, and the timing felt right to take a chance on building something together. While working in roofing, I was constantly asked if I could recommend a pressure washing service, so there definitely seemed to be a need in the area.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The first two years were exciting but very hard. It is a somewhat seasonal business and tends to slow down during the winter. Luckily now we have an established client base that helps keep us busy in the cold months.

We’ve been impressed with Ladder & Bucket, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are an exterior cleaning service company specializing in soft washing, gutter cleaning, and pressure washing. We chose to make the name vague so we could continue to transform and add on services along the way. It is quite the conversation piece, and I feel like it helps us stand out from the pack a bit.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
That would have to be the time my dad, Matt, and myself built a minibike up from a frame we found. It took forever, but when it was done, we had the best time scooting around Snow Camp, NC.
