Meet Jonathan Traylor of Item9 Pizza Food Truck

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Traylor.

Hi Jonathan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Item9 Pizza started as a fun pastime for my wife Kellie and me. We started by making flatbread pizza for our friends and neighbors. Eventually, we started making our own dough and sauce and taking orders for donations.

With a gifted pizza oven from a friend, our community overwhelmed us with hundreds of people waiting on a list to get our pizza!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a mobile food business with little to no experience has had its own set of troubles.

Simply finding locations to set up serves as an initial hurdle. After finding the venues, we have had to go through a lot of growing pains.

Dealing with rising fuel and food costs, flat tires and broken equipment are all part of our monthly issues. We even had our brakes go out on the way to a venue!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a mobile kitchen specializing in hand-tossed pizza. Our pizza is made from the fresh sauce and our own housemade dough. Item9 Pizza is known for our very creative pizza options such as Nashville Hot Chicken, crab dip pizza, Big Mac Pizza, and buffalo chicken, just to name a few.

We also are extremely proud of our traditional pizza options made with our housemade pizza sauce and high-quality cheese. We pride ourselves on the quality of our product. As a small family business, it’s vital for us to have a high-quality product paired with excellent customer service.

Item9 Pizza food truck is available for booking for a wide range of options. You can find us at breweries, festivals, birthday parties, weddings, or even visits to your local neighborhood or apartment complex.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
From a mobile food business standpoint, Raleigh is both good and bad for business. Our product is good enough to stand with some of the top pizzerias in the triangle.

The downside is that there are a wide variety of food options in the area that are excellent competition. Also, finding parking in the city of Raleigh for a food trailer can be difficult!
