Meet Jori Chioma of Jori Chioma Collection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jori Chioma.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My natural hair journey started in 2011, right at the time when women were beginning to really embrace their natural hair and step away from chemical treatments.

Since I was new to natural hair, I experimented a lot, A LOT! There were some styles that were hits and others that we can call “learning experiences.” Regardless of the results, I noticed that a lot of close friends had a lot of questions or wanted me to elaborate on what I was doing. As a result, I started documenting my journey on social media. This led to the formation of Jori Chioma, LLC in 2015.

Using an everyday task, I created a brand centered on natural hair, encouraging other women to embrace their natural hair and empowering them to realize they can achieve healthy hair at home. The opportunity to create natural hair campaigns with brands like Carol’s Daughter, Taliah Waajid, Dark & Lovely, Nourish & Shine, CURLS, Uncle Funky’s Daughter, Walgreens, and Walmart has been an honor.

As a result of extreme life changes in 2019, I expanded my brand and created the Jori Chioma Collection. Due to medication and stress, I experienced major hair breakage and hair loss. Having had extremely healthy hair for most of my natural hair journey, I was disappointed with my hair’s condition. I made the decision to restore my hair and do so without the “big chop.”

With that vision in mind, I curated a collection of quality hair care that aims to promote healthy hair starting at the root. My goal is to encourage, inspire and give women the confidence to embrace their individual beauty. The Stimulating Herbal Oil and natural hair-inspired headband wig have been the catalyst for my healthy hair journey.

This collection is for all hair types, loose naturals, locs, protective styles, chemically treated, and relaxed tresses.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The journey has always presented its challenges.

Being a digital content creator and entrepreneur, the landscape is always changing. The quality of content from 2015 to 2022 has enhanced drastically! Which can put a lot of pressure on creatives to constantly evolve with the times, so that same iPhone 6 video we were posting years ago, would not sustain in the market today.

Because everyone is competing for the views and attention of millions, it can cause you to lose sight of “why you started.” For myself, I have been very true to who I have always been. I try not to allow the pressures of the industry or my peers, to lead me in a direction that doesn’t fit me or serve my audiences.

With that, I do allow myself time away from social media or my business, to refocus or disconnect from a world that is all about over-consumption.

I don’t have anyone in particular, but I can say that I gravitate to anything that is produced or narrated by black women. I love consuming their work and find it so inspiring.
