Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliet Hurley
Juliet, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Almost seven years ago, I got diagnosed with Stage 2A Breast Cancer, which changed my perspective on life. I was self-employed as an Accounting Consultant teaching people how to use QuickBooks to do their books as well as completed bookkeeping for some clients. At the time of my diagnosis, the Cancer center doctors wanted me to take chemotherapy before and after surgery, which I declined. I let the staff know that I didn’t want to take chemotherapy, radiation or hormone drugs and they told me I would develop several new cancers in my lungs, stomach, colon, and bones. I let them know that I wanted a quality life, not a quantity life, and that I was going to use food instead of drugs to keep Cancer from returning. After my surgeries, I researched what foods to eat and in the process found certification programs for Holistic Nutrition. I ended up enrolling in AFPA’s program and was delighted to read books that basically said to eat exactly what I had found on my own, plus other lifestyle changes. I knew my regime would work, and I am happy to share that I have been Cancer free for almost seven years. I took my trauma and turned it into a business to help other people approach their health in a natural way because not everyone wants to take pharmaceutical drugs due to the negative side effects. I closed EverChange, LLC that was my accounting business and reopened EverChange, LLC as my Holistic Nutrition business and service marked “Enjoy Your Food, Enjoy Your Life!” In addition to health coaching, one of my biological aunts told me about a blood testing website when I told her I wanted to be able to prove that my choice of diet change had a positive impact on my health. She told me about Ulta Lab Tests and I was able to prove that my hormones changed for the positive after I made changes to my diet. Because those blood tests empowered me, I signed up my company to be a reseller. I earn commissions on the self-service blood tests and feel so amazing that people are empowering themselves to take charge of their health. The phlebotomist who took my blood for hormone tests was excited to learn how to get her own hormones tested because her doctor refused to give her the blood work, saying she was too young (she was in her 30’s). When COVID-19 came along, I took CE credits specifically for COVID-19 before vaccines were available, I found herbs that would help me and my husband just in case we contracted COVID-19. And just like my research with foods, the herb class backed up my independent research confirming I had the correct choices. I even tested out the herbs on myself and my husband before vaccines were available, and during a few COVID-19 scares from my husband’s coworkers and soccer teammates, I implemented my cocktails to prevent issues. Because of COVID-19 lockdown, I decided to make my Holistic Nutrition company as virtual as possible, so I have a Patreon account to be able to reach people all over the world in addition to self-service blood tests available throughout the U.S.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Launching my Holistic Nutrition business has not been a linear success. Similar to my Accounting-Consulting business, where people would contact me only after making a huge mess of their books, people generally are not proactive about their health and well-being. Also, many people believe in taking drugs, despite the negative side effects, because it’s easy and they don’t want to change. Even though drugs are like a bandaid, never relieving the root cause, people prefer them over working on themselves. I’ve always looked for lifestyle changes first, instead of drugs, to help reverse any health issues I have encountered and it boggles my mind that most people don’t want to exercise or change their food intake even if the results would make them feel amazing! Another struggle is that people don’t understand Holistic Nutrition, which looks at food intake, exercise, coping skills, stress management skills, what you put into your brain with books and social media as well as your spiritual beliefs. And, my husband was the only person who believed in me with my food regimen. Others tried to pressure me to listen to the doctors and take chemotherapy. Thirdly, there aren’t many studies published to prove out the amazing and positive side effects foods and herbs can make because of lack of funding and lobby groups that fight for pharmaceutical drug companies. And lastly, there are so many health coaches that post blogs and such with conflicting information that people have said to me they have no idea what to believe, that there’s too much information. Therefore, I put most of my energy into the Ulta Lab Tests, and populate my Patreon account for the moment that someone finally is done with pharmaceutical drugs and is willing to put in the work to make their Holistic Nutrition regimen work wonders for their mind and body.
We’ve been impressed with EverChange, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
EverChange, LLC is a Holistic Nutrition company that empowers you to take control of your overall health and well-being. My company provides health coaching, sells Ulta Lab blood tests to use as a baseline and to view improvement, and has an online platform to provide health tips. Right now I am not really known for anything in particular because my practice is so new. I needed to reach my 5-year Cancer Free mark before I could truly say that my food and herb regimen worked. My approach is subtle, and I do not provide cookie-cutter one-size-fits-all services. I help people make tiny changes to their everyday diet and routines so they don’t get overwhelmed and easily give up. My company works on all of your systems, because each one depends on the other, so I don’t prescribe diets. Yes, if some wants to follow a specific diet that they read about, we will go that route; otherwise, we slowly work on each of your systems (circulatory, lymphatic, digestive, mental health, physical health, etc.) so that incremental changes don’t feel noticable. Yet, the tiny changes can have a huge positive impact. For example, by switching my husband’s yogurt brand to have less sugars and less ingredients, he no longer wakes up cranky and his mood improved. One thing I want potential clients to know is that all foods, homemade herb capsules, and supplements that I recommend have been tested on myself and some on my husband, so I will be able to tell someone how to take the foods and herbs, what to expect to improve, and what to watch for in case a person’s body doesn’t like a specific ingredient.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I personally look online for mentors. I found a woman on LinkedIn that had a free seminar on using emails for your practice. I found Marisa Peers online and watch her videos and read her book, entitled “I Am Enough”. I found a fantastic podcast on how to heal from Complex PTSD. Keeping up with different techniques or styles is important to me so that I have a lot of tools in my mental health and wellness toolbox to fit the needs and wants of a large variety of people. And for in-person networking, it’s important to go to several events and not throw in the towel immediately if someone doesn’t call you back for services. Just like accounting, health issues can be very sensitive, so building relationships and getting into positive rapport with people is key to landing Holistic Nutrition clients.
