Meet Kateria Poe of Crown Connections

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kateria Poe

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
am Kateria Poe a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, healing advocate, and speaker. My journey into this work is personal and has been shaped by my experiences, curiosity and a calling to help others navigate their own healing journeys.

Growing up in Charlotte North Carolina I was the youngest of five children raised by a strong single mother who instilled resilience and faith in me. I was a naturally quiet child shy yet deeply observant. While I often kept to myself I was always paying attention and drawn to the unspoken emotions and struggles of those around me.

Despite my reserved nature I was encouraged to be active in church and excelled academically in school. Over time I discovered that my quietness was not just about being shy it was a strength. I was a listener, a deep thinker and someone who genuinely wanted to understand people and their stories. That natural curiosity about human behavior and resilience eventually led me to the field of counseling and therapy.

Today I am who I am because of my life experiences, my faith and my passion for helping others overcome life’s obstacles. I believe healing is possible for everyone and I have dedicated my career to walking alongside those who are ready to step into their own healing journey. Through my work as a therapist, advocate and speaker I help others find clarity, break cycles and embrace the wholeness they deserve.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has not been a smooth road, neither in my personal life nor in my career. Growing up, my mother battled brain cancer, which caused me to experience fear and anxiety on a level I didn’t fully understand at the time. Watching her struggle to raise a family with limited income was difficult, and for a period, we stayed in a shelter.

Ironically, after graduating from college, I worked in a women’s shelter, and that moment brought everything full circle. It was there that I decided to pursue a program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I wanted to be a part of the healing process for others in the same way I had longed for support during difficult times.

After graduate school, I faced yet another life-altering challenge when I was involved in a head-on car accident that nearly took my life. That experience changed me in ways I never expected. It deepened my ability to connect with my clients on a different level, instilled a sense of patience in me, and taught me the importance of slowing down and meeting each person where they are.

My own recovery during that time included going to therapy, and although it wasn’t my first time, being on the receiving end of counseling freed me from the pressure of having to “have it all figured out.” It gave me a space to move forward out of a dark place, one day at a time.

After recovering and working in the mental health field for another eight years, I now look back and see how those experiences prepared me to take healthy risks. They ultimately led me to become a private practice owner, living a life of freedom and balance that allows me to be present for my family while continuing to serve others in their healing journeys.

As you know, we’re big fans of Crown Connections . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Crown Connections is a private therapy practice dedicated to providing virtual therapy for adults 18 and older, as well as hosting virtual and in-person workshops for families, organizations, and companies. Through public speaking engagements, we also work to spread awareness of mental health and empower individuals to live authentically while improving their quality of life.

At Crown Connections, we take a creative approach to therapy, helping clients redefine obstacles and embrace the journey of self-discovery. Through therapy and workshops, we identify the barriers that keep individuals from living their best lives, while using evidence-based treatments to develop healthy, lasting solutions. One of our core beliefs is that you have the power to choose how you show up in life. Our goal is to guide you toward that empowerment.

We specialize in helping adults manage anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. With extensive clinical experience, we are equipped to help clients process their emotions, develop coping strategies, and move forward with clarity and confidence.

What makes Crown Connections unique is the depth of authenticity, transparency, and connection we bring to the therapeutic process. Having worked in the mental health field for years, I’ve gained a deep understanding of both my strengths and the individualized needs of my clients. I take a relational approach to therapy, prioritizing trust and creating a space where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered.

Unlike traditional therapy models where the therapist is seen as the authority, I firmly believe that clients are the experts in their own lives. Rather than simply giving advice, I guide clients toward recognizing their own ability to make meaningful change. This approach fosters self-trust, accountability, and a stronger sense of personal agency.

Crown Connections is more than a therapy practice, it is a mission to help people heal, grow, and thrive. I love what I do, and this work has sharpened me mentally and emotionally in ways I never imagined. What I’m most proud of is the clients I have helped over the years. They inspire me as much as I inspire them, and witnessing their growth and breakthroughs is the most rewarding part of this journey.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are several ways to connect and collaborate with me in my mission to promote emotional healing, mental wellness, and faith-based growth.

Work With Me: Individuals and companies can start by booking a free consultation to determine if I can assist in their journey toward emotional healing. Whether you’re seeking personal therapy or looking for mental health support for your organization, I am here to help.

Collaborate With Me: This year, I am actively seeking more collaborations within North Carolina and beyond. I would love to build meaningful connections and find ways to support people on a larger scale. If you are involved in community wellness initiatives, corporate mental health programs, church ministries, or advocacy work, I would love to discuss potential partnerships.

Business, Faith-Based, and Workshops: Through my business and workshops, I am able to create custom workshops tailored to the specific needs of companies, organizations, and faith-based communities. I facilitate discussions and provide strategies to navigate workplace challenges such as racial tension, workplace burnout, and setting healthy boundaries at work. Additionally, I offer faith-based mental health workshops for churches and Christian organizations that integrate biblical principles with practical mental health strategies to support spiritual and emotional well-being.

Support My Mission: You can support my work by inviting me to speak at organizational and church events focused on wellness, mental health, and faith-based healing. Another powerful way to support is by sharing your own personal experiences with therapy and how it has impacted your life. By normalizing conversations around mental health, we can collectively reduce stigma and encourage more people to seek the support they need.
