Meet Kenny Gomez of The Lab Detail Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenny Gomez.

Hi Kenny, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey in auto detailing started in Puerto Rico, way before it ever looked like a business. I was just a young kid trying to make a little extra money, charging $5 to $10 for a simple car wash in my neighborhood. I didn’t have the best equipment or products just a bucket, some soap, and a strong work ethic. But even then, I took pride in every car I touched. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was laying the foundation for something much bigger.

Eventually, I joined the military, which taught me discipline, attention to detail, and the importance of showing up values that ended up blending perfectly with my passion for detailing. Even while serving, I kept detailing on the side, wherever I was stationed. It was more than just a side hustle; it became a way to stay grounded and connected to my roots.

Fast forward to today, my wife and I now run The Lab Detail Studio a veteran, family-owned business where we bring the same pride and passion to every vehicle that comes through our doors. But it’s no longer just about detailing cars. We’ve made it our mission to also educate and inspire others. We teach up-and-coming detailers not just how to detail like pros, but how to build real businesses how to market, price, position themselves, and create something sustainable.

From $5 washes in Puerto Rico to running a full-scale operation and teaching others how to succeed it’s been a long road, but one I’m proud of.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road far from it. Like most entrepreneurs, the journey has been full of challenges, setbacks, and learning moments. Starting out, I didn’t have access to high-end tools, fancy products, or any real guidance. I was figuring things out through trial and error, sometimes making costly mistakes just trying to get it right.

When I joined the military, balancing service and my passion for detailing was tough. There were long days, deployments, and responsibilities that often left me with very little time or energy. But even then, I always found a way to stay connected to detailing — whether it was detailing cars on base or studying the business in my free time.

Transitioning from side hustle to full-time business was one of the hardest parts. It required a leap of faith. There were times when we doubted ourselves times when the bookings were low, when the bills were high, or when we felt stuck. But my wife and I kept pushing, learning, and reinvesting everything back into the business.

Marketing ourselves, getting high-quality clients, and building a reputation from the ground up in a competitive industry wasn’t easy either. We had to educate people on what professional detailing really is and why it’s worth investing in especially when many people just see it as “a car wash.”

But every struggle sharpened our focus. Every challenge taught us something. And those tough times are what made us stronger, more resilient, and more committed to helping others avoid some of the mistakes we made

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Lab Detail Studio?

Yes, we also detail planes. Our brand is built on trust, consistency, and results. We don’t cut corners, and we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Every vehicle we touch gets a tailored experience. We’re known for our high standards and white-glove customer service, and that’s a reputation we’ve earned by treating every job like it’s our own personal vehicle.

How do you think about luck?
Luck has definitely played a role in our journey both the good and the bad but we’ve always believed that what you do with that luck is what really makes the difference.

There were moments of good luck like meeting the right people at the right time, having clients refer us without us even asking, or coming across opportunities that opened unexpected doors. But none of those things would’ve mattered if we weren’t prepared to take action when they came.

On the flip side, we’ve had our share of bad luck too slow seasons, equipment breaking down right before big jobs, or investing time and money into things that didn’t work out. But those “bad luck” moments taught us how to adapt, how to stay hungry, and how to keep showing up no matter what.

So yeah, luck is real. But we’ve learned that hard work, consistency, and faith make luck show up more often. When you stay locked in on your goals, even the bad breaks become part of your breakthrough.
