Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenydi Nicole.
Hi Kenydi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Since birth, I’ve always had a passion for the beauty industry, it has always been a dream of mine to own my own business while making an impact on other people’s lives. I initially thought I was going to start my own marketing consulting firm.
However, God had other plans for me. I was a sophomore student-athlete at North Carolina Central University when Simply Allure by K Nicole LLC was first founded. I noticed the lash industry was becoming very popular within the beauty industry in 2018. A lot of people around my age were starting to gravitate towards it.
I then decided to take a lash course in Baltimore, Maryland; where I officially became a Certified Lash Technician. I thought the lash industry was going to be easy to flourish in when first starting off but that was not the case at all. I didn’t realize the amount of patience and time that comes with the skill.
The beginning steps were not easy at all but I was up for the challenge. I knew if I was consistent, the results would begin to speak for themselves. Every day all I did was look at something pertaining to lashes. I would wake up and fall asleep watching tutorial videos on lashes. I literally lived, slept, and breathed lashes. I practiced with friends and family any chance I could until I was comfortable taking clients. I will forever remember my first client. I was so nervous and full of anxiety; yet grateful.
My journey didn’t start off easy. Being from another city made it very difficult when establish clientele in Raleigh. I was forced to get out of my comfort zone and put myself out there. I’m naturally an introvert which made it more of a challenge. It was also a challenge balancing being a student-athlete while trying to establish my brand. I ran a track, so I would have practice every day, as well as meets on the weekends. I didn’t let that stop me though, I was very determined to turn my dreams into reality. I would take appointments before practice/classes and after. I was going to make it happen regardless.
Starting out as a home-based Lash Technician, it was a goal of mine to get my own studio when I graduated. I didn’t feel professional enough when working out of my home. However, I knew it was just a stepping stone and bigger things were in store. As soon as I graduated, it was an aspiration of mine to become a full-time Entrepreneur. Of course, I’ve had many family members think I should have a job lined up after college in case that didn’t work.
But I knew the corporate route was not for me. I had many internships throughout my college experience and I was miserable. There was no plan b for me. I knew what I wanted to accomplish and what I was capable of. I was willing to sacrifice and make whatever adjustments I needed to in order to make it happen.
After a year and a few months, I started to become more established within Raleigh and my passion for the industry continued to grow tremendously. I am beyond grateful and blessed to have been able to open up my studio in July 2021. Entrepreneurship taught me you have to show up for yourself every day. You only get out, what you put in. Entrepreneurship isn’t easy at all or for the weak but I love every single moment of this journey.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has very some very challenging moments. Working in the service industry you tend to deal with many different types of people and personalities. I’ve experienced some very difficult clients. But I’ve learned that I cannot please everyone.
Covid-19 also had a major impact on my business. The business became very slow but it also gave me time to sharpen up my business. I am grateful for every obstacle I’ve faced. It helped build my character and made me the person I am today.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the fact that Raleigh is not too big, but not too small. It’s easier to get your business out there versus a bigger city. Although I do dislike that it’s not a city feel. It is a bit difficult for me not to compare Raleigh to Chicago since that is where I grew up.
