Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiea Taylor.

Hi Kiea, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been drawn to creativity. In high school, I started painting my own nails because I wanted to express myself and stand out. Before long, I was doing nails for classmates between classes, and what started as a creative hobby quickly became a passion. After graduating, my grandmother believed in that passion enough to pay for me to attend nail school. I later paused my education to have my daughter, but returned to earn my license and committed myself to building a career I could be proud of.

Since then, I’ve spent over 15 years growing from a new nail technician into an award-winning nail artist, educator, content creator, and salon owner. I’ve had the opportunity to work with celebrities, lead nail teams at New York Fashion Week, teach students across the country, and build my brand, KreationsbyKiki, by staying true to my colorful style and commitment to healthy nail care.

Like many entrepreneurs, my journey has included setbacks, burnout, and difficult lessons in business and leadership. Those experiences ultimately helped me realize my passion extends beyond owning a salon.

Today, I’m transitioning into a new chapter focused on education, content creation, brand partnerships, and building a creative community where artists can learn, collaborate, and grow. My mission has always been bigger than nails, it’s about showing people they can build successful careers by embracing what makes them different.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Early on, I had to learn how to balance being a young mother while building a career. As my business grew, so did the challenges. Running a salon meant wearing every hat, artist, educator, marketer, accountant, manager, and leader. I’ve experienced financial setbacks, difficult staffing situations, burnout, and the pressure that comes with being responsible for both a business and the people who work within it.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success isn’t just about being great at your craft. Building a sustainable business requires difficult decisions, setting boundaries, and being willing to evolve. Those experiences ultimately led me to reimagine what I want my career to look like.

Today, I’m embracing a new direction focused on education, content creation, brand partnerships, and building a creative community. Looking back, I wouldn’t change the challenges because they shaped the leader, artist, and entrepreneur I’ve become.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve never viewed nails as just a beauty service. For me, they’re a creative outlet and a way for people to tell their story without saying a word. That’s why I’ve always been drawn to bold color, intricate details, and healthy nail care, creating work that’s both artistic and wearable.

What I’m most proud of is the community I’ve built throughout my career. Whether it’s a client who’s trusted me for years, a student gaining confidence in their skills, or someone who’s discovered my work online, I love knowing I’ve inspired people to embrace their own creativity.

I’ve also made it a point to create my own lane instead of chasing trends. My work has always reflected my personality, and I encourage others to build careers around what makes them unique rather than trying to fit into someone else’s mold.

At the end of the day, I hope people remember not just the nails I created, but how I made them feel and the confidence they left with.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
No one builds a career alone, and I’m incredibly grateful for the people who’ve believed in me throughout this journey. My mother and grandmother were my first and biggest supporters. My grandmother believed in my talent enough to pay for me to attend nail school, while my mother has been my steady source of encouragement through every stage of my career. Their unwavering belief in me gave me the confidence to pursue a dream that changed my life.

My sisters have also become an important part of my journey. My youngest sister, Shay, is one of my closest creative collaborators. She designs many of the outfits I wear for classes, events, and content, helps me bring my ideas to life, and is usually the person you’ll see right beside me at industry events. My sister Zhane has supported me in so many ways over the years, from helping cook for classes and events to stepping into a larger role with content editing as my brand continues to grow. Having family who not only believes in my vision but actively helps bring it to life is something I never take for granted.

My daughter has been one of my greatest motivations. Everything I’ve built has been, in part, about showing her what’s possible when you pursue your passion with purpose, creativity, and perseverance.

I’m equally thankful for my clients, mentors, fellow artists, and brand partners. My clients have trusted me through so many chapters of their lives, and that loyalty is something I’ll never take for granted. The relationships I’ve built throughout the beauty industry have opened doors, challenged me to keep growing, and reminded me that collaboration is one of the greatest gifts this profession has to offer.

When I look back on my career, I don’t just see accomplishments, I see a community. Every person who has believed in me, encouraged me, collaborated with me, or trusted me has helped shape the artist, educator, and entrepreneur I am today. My story may have started with me, but it has grown because of the incredible people who’ve walked alongside me.
