Today we’d like to introduce you to Kweisi Morrow.
Hi Kweisi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
So, it’s interesting because I got into skincare by accident. It was always just a subconscious thing and I never imagined it would lead to being not only a hobby but a passion and career. I dealt with acne in high school/college, typical right? But after college, in my career field at the time, I always had co-workers/colleagues ask me for skincare advice. I’m like “listen, this is what I use. Don’t go use these things and think it’s going to work for you”. I then began to really research and study skin types, conditions, etc. Fast forward, I recommended some pretty basic, versatile products to some of my coworkers and they came to me one day damn near crying tears of joy. They exclaimed, “Slim (my nickname), the products you recommended worked so good and our skin feels amazing”. I respond very nervously because I honestly had no clue it would be that big of a deal. One of the girls made a statement and it changed my life. “Slim, you should charge people for that. You should make that a business”. Thus “Skin by Slim” was born.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Hell no! I currently practice as a Licensed Esthetician full time. Also, I’m still in my first year. *Smiles nervously* It has been hell and I wish I had been more prepared. However, I have had an overwhelming amount of support and it could absolutely be worse. I’m thankful and more than grateful for that. Financial hardships at times are honestly my only struggle. Maintaining product stock and supplies, paying for promotion and advertising, BOOTH RENT!!?? HELLOO!?? It’s tough but God has made away thus far and I continue to have faith in my dream and in my brand.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
“Skin by Slim” is not only a business and brand but a bridge that closes a gap between clients and the value of skincare. My mission for “Skin by Slim” is to provide quality skincare services and treatments in an environment that invokes the deepest feeling of relaxation. My core motive for becoming a Licensed Esthetician is to educate men, more specifically black men, on the importance of skincare. As a black man, I understand the stigmas and stereotypes that come along with men and skincare. Part of my mission is to remove the idea of femininity from the skincare community. Being a man of color, I have the knowledge and the personality to convey the importance of skincare to other men. As men become more educated and comfortable in the realm of skincare, in turn, results in growth individually and as a unit. I’m super proud of my brand because there aren’t many black men in esthetics and I’m happy to be a representation of the growing community. What I would like readers to know about my brand is that they will get the best skincare experience with Skin by Slim. I offer a plethora of services including Hydrafacial, Enzymes, and more. Along with monthly specials, I offer incentives for any and everyone to take advantage of. Skin by Slim strives to offer the BEST.
What makes you happy?
Making others happy. It’s a catch 22 though. Allowing others to be responsible for my happiness can be emotionally tough but aside from materialistic things, making others happy and impacting lives makes me the happiest. Spending time with people I love makes me happy as well. Oh! and the beach…and Food. Lol
