Today we’d like to introduce you to Lillian Dye.
Hi Lillian , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I created Whole Sum Wellness to establish a much-needed place for women in the fitness and wellness industry. I have a degree in Kinesiology and worked in the functional medical field for years. During that time, I began to recognize a pattern of problems that so many women face. Despite doing ‘all the right things,’ most women I encountered felt overwhelmed and endured hormonal issues. In so many of these cases, it was not what they were doing, but how it was being structured. I dedicated my time during my education to learning how to better serve women in this industry. I now consider myself to be a leader in the concepts of hormone-based and life stage-based training for women. I also specialize in metabolic health, longevity and aesthetics. I am a certified personal trainer, women’s fitness specialist and nutrition coach through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I combine this knowledge with my experience in functional medicine to provide a holistic approach to fitness and lifestyle practices.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting this company was not exactly an easy road. In my case, creating space for women in an extremely male-dominated industry is a bit of an uphill battle. Over the decades, male subjects have been studied significantly more than female subjects in exercise and nutrition sciences. This deficit in data can prove to be difficult at times, but overall it is trending in a better direction, and I am honored to be a part of the difference. In working with women (and people in general), I believe that adaptability is a necessary skill, as the body is constantly shifting and changing. Adaptability is a skill I have acquired in practice, and being adaptable has fortified me through the challenges I have faced in starting this business.
We’ve been impressed with Whole Sum Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Since I was eleven years old, I have dedicated myself to my fitness journey. I started with running, and I was not particularly good at it at the start. I remember pushing myself to run ‘just one more block’ every day, and in no time I could hit three to five miles easy. I was out there, rain or shine, no matter the circumstances. I eventually added weight training and martial arts to my repertoire, and I felt invincible. The best gift I have given myself in childhood and beyond is to feel strong. No matter the circumstance or heartbreak, I have risen from the ashes knowing I have built that foundation for myself, and it depends on no one but me to maintain it. This is the driving force behind my service to others and to my community. I want to help others achieve the same sensation of fortitude.
