Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Young.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Ever since I was younger I was always fascinated with storytelling, whether it was reading a book, watching a film, or writing short stories. It wasn’t until I went to college, Western Carolina University, that I truly pursued my passion. My goal was to graduate and become a fashion writer at Vogue or Elle in New York City, I even wrote for different online fashion magazines, but life took a different turn when my mom’s battle with Lupus worsened. I moved to Texas to be closer to her, worked in the medical field to make money, and ultimately put my writing on the back burner. When my mom passed in 2017, I made it my goal to share my story with the world and spent most of 2020 writing my book, The Girl with a Broken Smile. This book allowed me to open up and share my journey growing-up and living with a cleft lip and palet. A topic that anyone rarely discusses, but an important one, especially for younger kids growing up like I did. After publishing the book in 2021, I have had so many amazing experiences and opportunities, and hopefully continue to share more of my stories in the future.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Writing is challenging as it is. Trying to find the perfect space to connect and concentrate, focusing, creating an outline, organizing your thoughts, editing, and eventually publishing. It was also difficult finding a publisher for my book; it’s not a topic people are familiar with, so I ended up self publishing. Having the funds to self publish and hope that whatever you spend, you make back in return.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Writing. I published my book The Girl with the Broken Smile in 2021.
What are your plans for the future?
I look forward to publishing my next book (a sequel) and writing a movie script.
