Meet Magdalena Stefanek of Magdalena Stefanek Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Magdalena Stefanek

Hi Magdalena, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Poland and moved to California after college. Despite my innate creativity and love for all forms of art, I was encouraged to pursue a practical career and graduated with a degree in human resources. Moving to the US gave me the freedom to explore my artistic side. Photography has been my passion since my teenage years, particularly nature photography. The experience of holding the camera, seeing the world through the lens, and hearing the sound of the shutter always gave me goosebumps.
As I connected with more people in the photography industry, I began photographing portraits, including high school senior portraits, headshots, and family portraits. I then started second shooting for a wedding photographer in Marin County, CA, which led to my expansion into wedding and event photography. In 2012, I decided to launch Magdalena Stefanek Photography, primarily focusing on weddings, events, and portraits in the Sonoma/Napa area.
In 2021, I moved to North Carolina, where I continue to photograph weddings, events, and portraits. I have also expanded my services to include product and branding photography, both on location and in my photo studio.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle so far has been moving the business to a new state. I won’t lie, I thought it would be easier than it was! I didn’t realize I technically needed to start over. Don’t get me wrong, I do have the experience of running a business and the experience as a photographer, but moving to a new state I was considered a new business with no connections within the industry and no clients. Also, every state has different laws and rules for running a business. But hard work pays off and I now have a fantastic group of vendors that I collaborate with and great clients I can serve!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in weddings, portraits, products, and event photography. I primarily serve Raleigh, NC and the surrounding areas but I am also available for travel. My passion for photography started at an early age and I often wish that I could “pause” life just to enjoy a special moment a little longer! This is why I love capturing photos for my clients so they may cherish, remember, and share them with their loved ones. Every project and client is unique. I take the time to understand your needs, preferences, and goals. My priority is to create timeless images that exceed expectations.

When it comes to photographing weddings my mission is to deliver a luxurious photography experience to couples seeking timeless and photojournalistic coverage of their wedding day. I strive to create images that are natural, candid, and elegant, capturing moments my clients will cherish for a lifetime. I believe that the best wedding photography is a collaboration between the photographer and the couple. That’s why I take the time to get to know my clients, understand their vision for the wedding day, and tailor my approach to suit their unique preferences.

As a portrait photographer, I offer family photo sessions, maternity photos, newborn photography, children’s portraits, high school senior sessions, individual or couples portraits, as well as professional headshots and branding sessions. My approach to portrait photography is centered around creating a comfortable and relaxed environment where my clients can truly be themselves.

In addition to wedding and portrait photography, I also offer product photography for clients’ websites and promotional materials. I do both on-location and in-studio product photography. I take the time to discuss with my clients their goals and expectations, as well as the specific features and qualities they want to highlight in their products.

As an event photographer, I specialize in creating exceptional photography experiences for a variety of occasions including corporate events, family reunions, charity fundraisers etc. I am dedicated to capturing the essence and excitement of clients’ special day. In addition, I support local charity organizations and I photographed events for Frankie Lemmon Foundation and Overflowing Hands.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is realizing that not everyone has to like my work. It’s a realization that has allowed me to focus on what truly matters. It is simply not possible to please everyone, and that is okay! I need to work hard, stay true to my vision and values, be consistent with my style, and trust that the right people will come around.
Don’t get me wrong, as a business owner, I am well aware that sometimes I need to adapt and change. Being flexible and open to improvement is crucial for any business to thrive. However, when it comes to my style and the way I run my business, it’s important to stay true to myself and not jump on every changing trend. Authenticity attracts the right audience.
