Meet Maggie Mullens of Charlotte

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Mullens.

Hi Maggie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
After working in the wedding industry for 3 years as a day-of coordinator and social media professional, I noticed the need and desire for personalized wedding signage. Now that I’ve moved to Charlotte from Columbus, OH, I am excited to see where this new market will take me! I have been an artist my entire life, and my family and friends have always pushed me to pursue my own business within the art realm. In early 2021, I decided to create my LLC! Since I launched my business, I have had multiple wedding and baby shower clients, and I am now adding social media management to my list of services. I am proud of myself for taking the chance and seeing it pay off.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect.
The biggest obstacle for me was the start-up. I have a ton of support from my friends and family that I am forever grateful for, but setting myself up with a website, bank account, taxes (ha!), starting my social media page, and so on. That has been a learning curve! The second biggest obstacle would be getting clients. This comes with time and advertising, so my next steps are to get my name out there.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I worked at The Walt Disney World Resort for a bit, and my work has a little sprinkle of pixie dust! I specialize in hand-lettered signage for weddings and events, along with social media strategy and management. I am proud of starting my business, but getting clients was the best feeling. I was experiencing some impostor syndrome when people reached out, but it was awesome to know that people loved what I did and trusted me to create personalized signage for their events. I recently added social media management after finding my love for content creation. I love being creative, and my years of customer service experience will allow me to be the personable professional I am today.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The biggest lesson I have learned is to trust myself! It’s cliché, yes, but I am my own worst enemy. Trusting myself has been challenging, but it’s been proven that I am great at what I do! I still struggle, as I am only human, but I am working on myself every day, and I can’t wait to see where the future takes me!
