Meet Mary Hinton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Hinton.

Mary, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Sweetheart Treats was created as a family business for the sole purpose of making life a little sweeter for people around us. It’s our mission to provide our customers with custom “guilt-free” baked goods for those special moments in life.

Since our inception in 2015, we have grown into a big extended family business having forged major partnerships, long-standing relationships, and engagement with the community in which we thrive – one sweet treat at a time.

We started with a vision for a cupcake business. We quickly expanded to other treats, cakes, breads, and much more. Our customers drive our innovation and creativity. If they can imagine it, we will do everything in our power to achieve it!

Our slogan is “Why not treat yourself, Sweetheart? and we strongly believe in it!”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We have faced many challenges since we decided to bet on ourselves and start this business. We started in a mall in 2015, in a time when online businesses quickly caused a decline in mall traffic. The Amazon effect is real! We opened our brick and mortar in 2017 establishing ourselves as a premier bakery and then in our stride, COVID hit. We had to pivot several times within the last year to protect ourselves and our customers, but continue to deliver quality products for special occasions.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I own a bakery. We specialize in gourmet cupcake flavors that can be Vegan, gluten or sugar-free. Currently, we do over 200 flavors and that sets us apart from other bakeries. I am most proud of going for a home bakery to a kiosk in the mall to our brick and mortar location with no formal cake/bakery experience.

What does success mean to you?
I define success by making mistakes, falling short and not giving up. Every day is a new day to push forward.
