Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Johnson.
Hi Meredith, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Meredith Davis Johnson is a local artist from Nashville, NC. Meredith grew up singing in church with her family and continued to pursue music as she began performing at various restaurants, venues and festivals. A graduate of East Carolina University, she is a Board-Certified Music Therapist and launched her private practice, New Song Music Therapy, LLC in May of 2018. Her musical influences include Shania Twain, Jo Dee Messina and Stevie Nicks. Meredith has a reputation of performing a vast array of music from current and classic country, beach music, classic rock to mainstream pop and even her own songwritings. Meredith has won local awards including Nash County’s Got Talent in 2011, Shuckin’ Shack’s Battle of the Openers in 2023, and opened for country artists Parmalee, Dillon Carmichael, Easton Corbin and Tyler Farr. Meredith still resides in Nashville, NC with her husband, Davis, daughters, Macie and Claire and dog, Duke.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is never smooth, but always going forward! I will forever have dreams beyond my reach in the season I’m in, but will never stop chasing them. I would not say I have had many struggles, but rather blessings as a mom, business owner and musician. None of these things stop me, I just have to get creative in how I book, market and make music.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Many of these could apply to me as a musician, music therapist and business owner. I always knew I wanted to do music, but I have always had a passion for people. Through Meredith Davis Johnson Music and performing in restaurants and various venues. I’m able to bring people joy. Through my music therapy practice, New Song Music Therapy, LLC, I am able to witness firsthand the transforming power of music in someone’s health and overall wellbeing. I am most proud that I can touch so many people with my music.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The Bible!! The Lord gives me strength through the power of His Word when some days are more challenging than others.
