Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Vick.
Hi Meredith, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
SoCharm Designs – short for “southern charm” – is a lifestyle jewelry brand for every woman. SoCharm was born when I combined two of my passions – an obsession with beautiful jewelry and an addiction to designing and creating handcrafted items for the women in my life. It all began several years ago with deciding to become a vendor and selling my jewelry at my local church’s fall bazaar. I was scared to death that I’d get there that weekend and no one would buy any of my pieces. But to my surprise, I sold several pieces and from there I knew I wanted to create more and more. This then began the journey of SoCharm Designs where I created an online social media presence, began selling with my first retail partner in 2015, and then grew enough to form my own website in 2017. While this is still a side hustle for me, I am so honored to have had SoCharm Designs in 10+ retail locations including the Atlanta market AmericasMark.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the obstacles in this business has been learning to trust yourself and let go of failures or things that just do not work out. One example is always questioning if I’ve bought too many or too little materials for the season’s collection – if I don’t sell out of them, did I make a mistake in investing too much in one piece? Or if I do sell out, could I have invested more? Another struggle is navigating the retail business in general and trial and error is a huge learning experience when it comes to getting my products on store shelves.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SoCharm Designs?
SoCharm Designs is a handcrafted jewelry brand that seeks to bring women confidence in their everyday lives. I strive to create handcrafted pieces which reflect timelessness, quality, and style with materials that are sourced both locally and globally. I also seek to use my business for good. You will find that with each purchase of my Door of Hope bracelets, I donate a percentage of sales to the nonprofit Door of Hope in South Africa that seeks to rescue abandoned babies and match them with their forever families.
As an adoptive mom, I have also used my business to help local families adopt through Adoption Fundraisers. I personally know the struggle of wondering how you’re going to pay for it all but still pushing through the doubt and fears to welcome a child into your life. Without question, adoption is expensive. While some organizations require you to layout your financial status and expected resources, we do not. All we require for qualification is that you are currently opening your heart to adoption.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Some of my favorite memories as a North Carolina native is vacationing on the North Carolina coast. I am so privileged to have grown up in a state with a beautiful coastline that includes the Outer Banks, and to this day the coast of NC is one of my favorites places to be, no matter what season of the year it may be.
