Meet Michael Bongiorno of North Raleigh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Bongiorno.

Hi Michael, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Bongiorno & Son was founded on the inspiration to create a neighborhood eatery and specialty store that reminded us of our Sunday home-cooked Italian meals around the dinner table. Our menu is a combination of family recipes passed down from one generation to the next and meals inspired by our visits to Italy and our travels around the world. Bongiorno & Son carries on the tradition of our great grandfather with his Patisserie shop in New York’s Little Italy, our Grandfather’s Italian Grocery Store in Jersey City, New Jersey, and of course Grandma and Mom’s home cooking! We strive to provide high quality hard to find Italian meats, cheeses, and retail items. Founded by Michael Bongiorno in 2020 it has been a longtime dream to open an “Italian Store” as they are commonly known in the North-Eastern part of the United States.
Visit our store to sample some of our delicious selections of Sandwiches, Soups, Imported Cheeses, Cold Cuts, Sausage, Pasta, Bread, and a wide variety of Antipasto offerings. Let us cater your next event for family parties, holidays, corporate functions, training events, school functions & conferences. We can design a custom package to meet all of your culinary needs.

We hope our Italian specialty shop and delicatessen will become your neighborhood market for all your Italian shopping needs.

Come in and see us soon. We appreciate your patronage.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Opening in the middle of Covid was a challenge but we focused on quality and filling a need in the market

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I spent 15 years in Asia working as an Executive Chef in the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, Guam and Japan. I was the youngest American Chef for Hyatt International ever to be promoted to the Position Of Executive Chef. I had the opportunity to meet and cook for President Clinton and Queen Elizabeth along with many other heads of states.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
