Meet Money Over Death Records

Today we’d like to introduce you to Money Over Death Records.

Money Over Death Records

Hello Money Over Death Records, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am Herukhuti Ausar, CEO of Money Over Death Records (Money Over Death aka MOD), based out of Raleigh, NC and it all began while I was paying a political debt to society. I met a brother by the name of Tehuti who had a lot of knowledge about the music industry. At that time, I was an artist rapping with dreams of becoming the next up-and-coming star in the music industry. However, before I began to pursue my dream as an artist, it was Tehuti who taught me the importance of understanding the business moreso than just the music that would eventually lead me into becoming the music executive that I am today.

So, after paying my political debt to society, I met Tupac’s brother Mopreme Shakur through a cousin of his that linked us together via a phone call and one thing led to another and that’s when I took off for Los Angeles to meet Tupac’s brother.

Upon my arrival to Los Angeles, I was met with the opportunity to visit with LA Radio Personality Big Boy on Power 106 and Big Boy gave me And Mopreme Shakur a one-hour LIVE interview on one of the biggest radio stations in the nation.

After leaving that interview, I returned home to North Carolina excited about that opportunity and began to focus on Radio back in the Carolinas. It is at this time that the Radio DJs and Radio Program Directors from my city took me seriously and eventually I secured radio airplay for one of my own records.

From that moment on, I understood the power of relationships and began connecting with other radio stations throughout the Carolinas.

I eventually got radio airplay for my music and even opened up the door for other artists to get radio exposure. Eventually, I realized that the artists in the hip-hop industry weren’t being represented in the Carolinas like they were in other markets like New York and Los Angeles, so I decided to move to Los Angeles, and this is when the networking began. I connected with some of the biggest Radio Personalities, Music Industry Executives, and Celebrities in the nation. Further, I scored TWO music placements in the Bruce Willis and 50 Cent movie “Fire With Fire” which, astonishingly, was unheard of for an up-and-coming indie artist to accomplish for the same movie.

I eventually decided to move into an Executive role and founded Money Over Death (MOD). Now, I sign and plan to break artists, especially out of the carolinas.

Murda Man

Murda Man, aka Murda with the alter ego of Black November is the hip hop trap soul R&B crooner of the label. He’s the Lebron James of the label hailing from the “QC”, Charlotte North Carolina. You take MO3, Nipsey Hussle, Tupac and put them all in one, and there you have Murda Man the artist affectionately known to many as Murda whose single “Pen To The Booth” is currently getting worked into more clubs and DJ booths across the country.

Gmack The Bandman

Gmack The Bandman, aka Gmack is the young trapper of the label with an undeniable delivery and flow.

Space

Space is like an urban Eminem, with deep thoughts and sound like Kendric Lamar. His vibe is what I call alternative rap/urban rock music.

Lil Quay

LilQuay aka Big Quay, is my newly signed 14-year-old spitter. Big Quay is the new age Bow Wow that can really rap.

AND coming soon we’re adding a dope female artist and a Jamaican dancehall recording artist to the roster that’s going to change the game in the Carolinas and beyond.

Looking ahead, Money Over Death aspires to act write movies and novels in the near future.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No. It hasn’t been a smooth road. There’s been legal struggles and lots of business lessons learned. Also, serving as a mentor to this new generation has been very challenging.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As an artist/creative/executive, I pride myself on being a radio consultant guy because of all the radio relationships I’ve built over the years. The reason I’ve been so successful in this industry is because of my ability to connect with the streets as well as with corporate America. I either have all the tools or know where to get them to help an artist succeed.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a highly energetic kid from the inner city; basically, a product of my environment raised by a single mother who enjoyed sports such as basketball and football.
