Meet Monica Dabney of Lotus Wellness, Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Dabney.

Hi Monica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I owned medical centers in Miami, Florida. I had doctors, nurses, physical therapists, etc. working for me. It was a great living, then, my second son entered second grade and was diagnosed with ADHD.
I took him to the head of child neurology at Miami Children’s Hospital, only to walk out 15 minutes later with the diagnosis and a prescription for Ritalin which was the drug of choice back then.
My son was placed on the medication for a few months during the school year, and I hated the side effects and what it did to him.
Discussing my frustration with one of my nurses, she mentioned acupuncture and I thought she was out of her mind, the neurologist who worked at my center mentioned he had studied it in Hong Kong and was very supportive of it. My son started receiving acupuncture, and did great. Eventually adding some herbs and homeopathic remedies and behavior modification and life changes. He is now 40 years old and very successful, and does not take medication.
I went back to school from 1995 to 1999 and graduated as doctor of Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture physician.
I established the first integrative medical center in Miami, where on one side we had modern conventional medicine, and on the other, traditional and holistic wellness. Along with a few of my colleagues, we presented our projects and were able to have insurance contract us as providers.

I presented a grant project for NIH many years ago in which we were going to research the effects of acupuncture and homeopathic remedies in the treatment of anxiety in women.

Lotus Wellness, Inc. was established in Miami in 2007, and has been operating in North Carolina since 2020.
During my years of practice, I have incorporated additional modalities and continued studies. Fifteen years ago I became certified as a Professional Life Coach. I am trauma informed and trained.

I worked as Life Skills Coach for the Children’s Court in Miami through FRC, and assisted in the reunification of families whenever possible.

Currently, my main focus is working with Veterans. I am a VA CCN provider and love working with our military in helping them with their physical and emotional pain. We owe our veterans so much, that we can never give back enough. I specially like working with female veterans.

I am now an empty nester and am devoted to growing further in the area of Life Coaching, and have added Family and Systemic Constellation modalities to my practice in hopes of helping people release generational and systemic trauma and live a happier and more fulfilled life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In 1999, when I first graduated, we were shun by the medical field, and insurance companies.
Today, I treat doctors, nurses, and am contracted by Cigna, Aetna, Humana and the VA.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My brand is the Lotus flower. I equate its growth, to the growth of a woman. We may come from different backgro9unds, murky waters, grow through mud and rocks, fight currents, yet emerge always as beautiful flowers in different shapes and colors.

My practice consists of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Life Coaching and Family Constellation services and homeopathy.

How do you think about happiness?
Seeing people, especially women take less medication, practice more prevention and become healthy in body and mind.
I love to help people live a healthy, happy and fulfilling life.
We are powerful beyond belief and our bodies and minds so capable of healing if we put the right tools and effort in place.

My biggest reward to helping people conquer themselves and regain their powers.
