Meet Nadine Lilly of Forsaken Hearts Salon + Shop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadine Lilly.

Hi Nadine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I originally was going to drop out of college sophomore year and pursue doing hair and make up, and I decided against it. Graduated college did a few months in a professional field and realized it was lacking something. I was missing the human interaction that I enjoyed so much from my bartending and serving experiences. I finished out my term with my other job. Went back to bartending and went to high school. In 2016 graduated from Hair school in 2017 moved California by January 2018, and I lived out there for three years moved back to the Raleigh area in 2020 and was honestly very burnt out and needed to take a break from here. Got back into bartending and found a Salon to nest at and haven’t looked back since I have realized that doing. Hair is more than a job. It is connecting with people, and that’s what gets me and keeps me excited as well as getting to be creative and face different challenges that come along with my different clients.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Burnout!
When I lived in California, I was working three jobs. My Salon job. I did 40 to 60 hours there. Plus I bartended on the weekends. I also was a Manager at a local chain boutique. And I was hoping by drinking and partying. I was sick. My body began to retaliate against me, and that’s when I realized I needed to change my Way of life and come back the burn out that I was facing. My clients were not getting the best version of me and that was something that made me so upset and so ready for change. Upon moving back here. That was always my one thing. I was trying to avoid the one thing that I know that challenged me in my field was burning myself out.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Forsaken Hearts Salon + Shop ?
My Salon, I just started back in January. And in February. I got my Reiki certification and have been offering Reiki and Hair services, haircuts and color. I’ve always been very intrigued by The metaphysical realm which has led me to Reiki, and throughout the past few years, I’ve also struggled with my own sense of self and sense of being and Reiki being one of the things that has given my life, true purpose. I strive to take my time and really listen to people. I do a thorough consultation and really try to pick the Client brain before executing, and the only way to do that is to really listen and sit and ask questions. I believe that we all want to be our best selves, so I need to be my best self in order for my clients to achieve their higher self.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is roaming around in my backyard. In a creek, sometimes having to swim in it because I was too short, or get out and walk along the bank and finding animals along the way.
