Today we’d like to introduce you to Niah T.
Hi Niah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am Niah T., a Professional Choreographer/Dancer born and raised in Raleigh, NC. I attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC, where I earned a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on Entrepreneurship and Dance and a minor in Communication Arts. I discovered my passion for the Performing Arts and Entertainment Industry at a young age! I began taking ballet dance classes at the age of three years old. Throughout my youth, I had the opportunity to advance my training and artist development by joining the dance ministry at my childhood church. I later joined the Gifted Arts Program at 14 years old, which allowed me to explore myself artistically through dance, acting, singing/songwriting, modeling, and so much more! I attended the illustrious Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School and was allowed to take dance classes under Lisa Wilder’s instruction. Aside from the technical training, growing up, I would create “showcases” within my household with siblings and friends. Sometimes my friends and I would pretend we were in music videos while creating choreography. We would sometimes even film and edit our videos! In my adult life thus far, I have participated in two professional dance companies based on the Diaspora of African Dance (West African and Afro-Brazilian) and taught High School Dance. I am the founder and owner of Beautiful Soles Dance Company, LLC, based in Raleigh, NC. I can proudly say that each of these experiences has indefinitely inspired me to become the artist, instructor, and entrepreneur I am today.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
Deciding to become a full-time entrepreneur has not been easy at all! However, I am very grateful for each lesson I have encountered. I believe the greatest challenge I’ve experienced as an entrepreneur is understanding when to take that leap of faith. When I started my business plan, I realized how much of a financial investment starting your business venture would require. I believe the fear of failure to sustain and support my business venture held me back from actually taking the leap of faith for years! While chatting with a few of my mentors, I understood that waiting to take that leap of faith was holding me at a disadvantage. Once I accepted that the beauty in becoming a successful entrepreneur is learning from trial and error. I allowed myself to trust being okay with not always having the answer and that it is okay to ask for help or build a team to better support your vision.
We’ve been impressed with Beautiful Soles Dance Company, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the founder and CEO of Beautiful Soles Dance Company, LLC. As a Professional Choreographer, I wanted to create a safe and authentic space for dancers in the Raleigh/Durham area to join a Professional Dance Company. Our mission is to inspire emerging artists who may have the desire and passion for expressing their sole purpose through the art of dance. Beautiful Soles Dance Company is very diverse in the genres of dance we specialize in, to name a few (Modern/Contemporary, Hip-hop, Ballet, Liturgical, Jazz, Heels Dance, and Diaspora’s of African Movement). What sets us apart from other companies is our diversity and the family nature of the dance company. Each #SoleTribe member is welcomed and embraced as family. We all have a mutual desire, and with this understanding, we hold each other accountable even through hardships while focusing on personal and company-related goals and aspirations.
As a Professional Choreographer, I am known for hosting weekly dance classes open to the public. I currently offer Heels Dance, Hip-hop, and Contemporary movement dance classes. I also provide a service of private dance classes catering to personal development for clients wanting to advance their skillsets. In addition to Beautiful Soles Dance Company, we offer many services to be hired as entertainment for special events or performing opportunities provided by local and celebrity performing artists.
