Meet Nicole Ling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Ling.

Hi Nicole, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Events with Coco came to life after I decorated my daughter’s first birthday in March of 2021. Before I became pregnant, I was working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Washington and moved to Fayetteville, NC after my husband was stationed at Ft. Bragg. In between the move, I gave birth to my daughter in March of 2020, at the height of COVID in its earliest stage.

When we got to North Carolina, I became a stay-at-home mom due to the pandemic and my husband being away numerous times for military training. When my daughter’s first birthday came along, I wanted to celebrate her first year as well as the first time her family was able to see her and spend time with people amidst the previous lockdowns.

I’ve always loved decorating and using my creativity to create an aesthetic look, but after posting photos of her event, I received many compliments and inquiries from friends and family to decorate for their children’s parties. In July of 2021, I decided to officially make it a business as this was something I knew I loved doing and allowed me to release into the creativity it brings.

Seeing people enjoy the decorations and watching them walk into their own event with the utmost happiness is what makes me love this craft so much.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Events with Coco is still in the first year of business, which of course, comes with many learning experiences. I do everything myself, with the help of my husband and the observation of my now-toddler.

I’ve learned everything from scratch, and although there have been many mistakes I’ve made as far as sourcing quality materials and vendors used, or undercharging my services in the beginning, every event serves as a moment of learning and an opportunity to do better for the next.

I have to say, I’m an extremely fast learner, extremely adaptable, and am probably my biggest critic as I take a lot of pride in the quality I provide, as well as the final look I’ve achieved for each client.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I decorate and style all sorts of events and specialize in balloon decor as well as partial event planning.

Whether it be baby showers, birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, corporate events, or whatever the case may be, since COVID, I feel very strongly that any and every occasion deserves to be celebrated, as we never know what the next day could bring.

We love celebrating all the small wins at Events with Coco!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I want to branch out into being an event prop rental business as well, with hopes of purchasing my own venue establishment with space for an on-site rental gallery, as well as rental space for clients and weddings.

I feel like since the pandemic, many people have taken their celebrations more seriously as well as their ability to gather around loved ones, as we weren’t able to during the midst of COVID.

There will always be something to celebrate, therefore, I believe the event industry will continue to flourish for many, many years to come.
