Today we’d like to introduce you to Qiana Jones.
Hi Qiana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in New Jersey playing sports and dancing throughout my childhood. I always enjoyed traveling with my family and spending time with my friends. I’ve been super social my whole life! So being interactive and helping others has always just been part of who I am. It comes naturally to me and I value being of service to others. I finished my undergraduate degree at UNC-Greensboro and moved on to get my Master’s in Social Work degree from the Joint Masters of Social Work program at UNC-Greensboro & NC A&T State University. I really feel like my career has been an amazing journey ever since. I wasn’t sure where I’d end up, but I made it a point to just soak up all the knowledge and training I could in all things social work and mental health. It wasn’t easy because there were many long intense work days and nights in various positions I held in my career.
I did this all while trying to be the best wife and mother I could be to my husband and daughters. I can’t say enough about how much their support, patience, and love have carried me through! After working in child welfare and mental health settings for over 10 years, I started teaching part-time. I think that was when I realized how much I had in me to give. Not just as a social worker, but also as an educator of other social workers. Sometimes you do the work and still don’t really realize just how much you have inside, how much you’ve learned… how much you are needed in this world. I really believe that once I started seeing my true gifts and all that I had to offer, my path became clearer. From then on I took the steps to equip myself to be in private practice as a licensed clinical social worker and teach social work classes as an adjunct professor. I found my sweet spot!
I found a way to marry my gifts with a career that I truly enjoy. Now, I’m proud to say that I’ve been in this field for over 18 years, I’m helping people find hope and healing, I’m helping to shape the next generation of social workers and I’m feeling so blessed!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. I faced some significant challenges. My oldest daughter was an infant when I started grad school. She was 2 when I finished and I always say that she also has a Master’s degree! That was super difficult to manage as a brand new mom, but I was determined that we were going to make it! By the time my second daughter was born, I was working long hours and dealing with so much intensity at work, that I was beginning to burn out. Mid-career, we moved to another state, we went through significant family struggles, I had to learn to cope with an Adult ADD diagnosis, and then in 2013, my father passed away.
That really knocked the wind out of my sails for a while. After moving back to North Carolina in 2016, I really found my footing. With my family’s support and a lot of prayers, things have been amazing! I can’t say that I’ve had the worst of struggles throughout my journey, but I can say that I’ve definitely had to dig deep and stay anchored in my faith. I’ve had to lean on people close to me and be vulnerable. I’ve had to practice what I preach… lol. I had to do the very thing I’m often asking my patients to do when they come to therapy.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the CEO of H2 Lifecare, LLC. We are an outpatient therapy practice here in Raleigh. I started H2 Lifecare with a simple mission of helping people find their path toward hope and healing. I think we all have a story and as we journey through we are shaped by our experiences, sometimes in good ways and sometimes not so good. So H2 Lifecare is a place where people can come to speak with a licensed therapist, be their raw, authentic selves, and find ways to meet their mental health goals. We specialize in seeing patients who are dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, marriage and family issues and so much more. We value being trained to deliver and utilize evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and others.
We deliver these therapies via individual counseling, group counseling, marriage, and family counseling as well as faith-based counseling. H2 Lifecare as a brand is about connection. It’s important that we don’t just “see” patients, but that we connect with them in ways that inspire them toward change. We aren’t into having a revoving door of people who we barely know each time we see them. Connection is such an important ingredient in building trust and helping people know that they aren’t just another number. We are about having a warm, welcoming, and judgment-free environment, being fully engaged, being intentional about our approach, and being ethical in our work.
H2 Lifecare, LLC is ready to serve! We are committed to serving those who need mental health care and we are continuing to grow in so many ways.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I’m not sure how to answer this one because I honestly believe that I’ve just been blessed. I also believe that a lot of things in my life that didn’t go from bad to worse or bad to catastrophic are because I have a praying Mama! LOL, she has really been instrumental in my life as a role model for strength and endurance. In my personal life, I’ve seen a lot of ups and downs, but I can always reflect on how things have worked together for good in the end. I believe that’s how God works. It’s important for me to always remember that there’s a purpose and a plan for my life and even though tough times come, they can’t consume me.
I’ll be honest, there are definitely times when I think I’m horrible in business! I choose to serve and so that doesn’t always line up with the principles of business. This has been a learning curve for me, but I’m thriving nonetheless. I just try to put good out and let good in. So again, I don’t think it’s luck that things have gone so well thus far in business. I think it’s because there’s a track record I can see of when I put the best of me out there, eventually, I see good come back to me.
