Meet Rachelle Williams & Hayden Shoffner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachelle Williams & Hayden Shoffner.

Hi Rachelle & Hayden, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We like to say we grew up on the golf course. Whether riding the golf cart with our grandmothers or evening practices on the driving range we were always on the links with our family.

Of all the memories we collected on the course the one that has remained the clearest is how well our grandmothers dressed when playing golf. We grew up understanding that you should never compromise your personal style for any occasion.

Therefore we have made it our mission to bridge the gap between modern fashion and performance while paying homage to the sophistication and style of our matriarchs’ wardrobes. Through Byrdie Golf we hope to not only reintroduce personal style back to the game of golf, but also celebrate a new generation of women who bring friendships, cocktails, and legacies to the 19th hole.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Although golf is such a timeless sport we understand it is not the most inviting environment. We have heard time and time again that young women are intimidated to get into the sport because they’ve never played before, do not have anyone to practice with, or have anything to wear!

The biggest challenge we are tackling is how to be a champion for the female golfer and create a welcoming space for women of all skill levels, ages, or ethnicity and introduce them to a game that they can enjoy for the rest of their life and look great while doing so!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In a male-dominated space, we are beyond proud to be a fully owned and operated female business that designs and produces everything Stateside. We take pride in our design process and are able to use our many years in the fashion industry and apply trends that we are seeing in your everyday wardrobe to your golf attire.

Before anything hits our website or your closet we ensure that it is swing, sweat, and post-round friendly meaning we play around in each piece to ensure we’ve captured the comfort and practicality you need on and off the course!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
It feels taboo to be saying this but COVID-19 has played such a role in the game of golf for women and for us here at Byrdie Golf. Due to the pandemic, more women are playing golf now than ever before and country club memberships are at an all-time high.

For the first time, we are seeing clubs focusing and catering to the female member which has been great for our brand and the sport alike! There are so many lessons to be learned from a devastating event such as COVID-19 but we choose to stay focused on the positives and have found that the launch of Byrdie Golf Social Wear could not have been any more timely since dropping our first collection in March 2020.
