Meet Raven Hooker of North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raven Hooker.

Hi Raven, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is The SongBird Raven, and I’m a singer-songwriter from Greensboro, North Carolina, with a passion for R&B, Soul, Blues, and Neo-Soul. Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. What started as singing in church and at local community events grew into a calling that I couldn’t ignore.
Like many independent artists, my journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve balanced motherhood, a full-time job, and life’s challenges while continuing to invest in my dream. There were moments of doubt, financial obstacles, and times when I questioned whether to keep going, but every challenge only strengthened my faith and determination.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of performing on incredible stages, opening for national recording artists, winning competitions, releasing original music, and building my band, The Nest. Each opportunity has reminded me that success isn’t just about the destination—it’s about staying consistent and authentic to who you are.
Today, my mission goes beyond entertaining. I want my music to make people feel seen, loved, and understood. Whether I’m performing an original song or putting my own soulful twist on a classic, I hope every person who hears me leaves with something that inspires them. I’m still writing my story, and I truly believe the best chapters are yet to come.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every obstacle has shaped me into the artist I am today. As an independent artist, I’ve had to wear many hats—artist, business owner, promoter, marketer, and often my own biggest cheerleader. Balancing a full-time career, motherhood, and pursuing music hasn’t always been easy, especially when finances were tight and I was investing in my career out of my own pocket.

There were moments when opportunities didn’t work out the way I hoped or when doors closed unexpectedly. Instead of giving up, I chose to keep showing up. Every setback taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of trusting God’s timing. Looking back, those struggles prepared me for the opportunities I’m receiving today, and they’ve given me a story I can share to encourage others not to quit on their dreams.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer-songwriter and live performer specializing in R&B, Soul, Blues, and Neo-Soul. My goal is to create an experience every time I step on stage. Whether I’m performing my original music or reimagining timeless classics, I want people to feel every lyric and leave with a memory that stays with them.

I’m known for my soulful vocals, my ability to genuinely connect with audiences, and the energy I bring alongside my live band, The Nest. I believe music should be felt, not just heard.

What I’m most proud of is my perseverance. I’ve remained true to who I am while continuing to grow as an independent artist. From releasing original music and winning performance competitions to sharing stages with incredible artists and representing my hometown, every accomplishment reminds me that consistency and authenticity matter.

What sets me apart is my heart. I don’t perform to impress people—I perform to connect with them. I want every audience member to leave feeling encouraged, inspired, or simply reminded that music still has the power to heal and bring people together.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t really look at my journey as luck. I believe it’s been a combination of faith, preparation, persistence, and God’s favor. There have certainly been moments that seemed perfectly timed, but I also know those opportunities came after years of hard work, sacrifice, and staying committed when no one was watching.

Even what some people would call “bad luck” has often turned into a blessing in disguise. Rejection has redirected me to better opportunities, and delays have taught me patience. I’ve learned that what’s meant for me won’t pass me by, so I continue to stay prepared, keep growing, and trust the process.
