Today we’d like to introduce you to Rene Glover.
Hi Rene, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My entrepreneurial journey began at 19 when I started freelancing as a photographer. A few years later, I added graphic design, blending visuals and storytelling to help others show up professionally. In 1996, while attending beauty school to become a nail tech, I noticed many talented stylists were waiting for walk-ins instead of marketing their services. That realization inspired me to merge creativity with business strategy to help professionals promote their brands more effectively.
In 2009, I launched Your Eccentric Style Barber & Beauty Network (YESBBNET)—a platform for barbers, stylists, and beauty professionals to connect, showcase their work, and be celebrated. I hosted Monday Night Live Industry Affair events and The Black Hairitage Extravaganza in 2012, honoring pioneers, innovators, and community pillars. Though my digital directory and magazine were ahead of their time, they laid the foundation for what I do today.
From 1998–2013, I owned an in-home daycare and, by 2000, expanded into a youth program that offered affordable after-school and summer care for Charlotte families. When the economy shifted in 2008, I pursued an associate degree in Graphic Arts & Imaging Technology and later a bachelor’s in Digital Cinematography, preparing for the digital era.
In 2021, I founded the VYC Foundation, a nonprofit focused on empowering youth and women through creativity and leadership. The pandemic made the start slow, but it deepened my commitment to community impact.
By 2024, I launched VYC Studios—a faith-driven creative hub where small businesses, barbers, beauty professionals, and nonprofits grow through personal branding and visual storytelling. That same year, I wrote my book Work While It’s Day, and by 2025, I introduced my Brand UPP™ Framework (Uncover, Position, Profit).
I believe action guided by faith changes everything. Work While It’s Day isn’t just a book—it’s the mindset that drives me to help others uncover their gifts, build boldly, and lead with impact.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely not been smooth. There were seasons when I questioned if I was qualified or capable enough — that quiet voice of imposter syndrome would creep in, especially when I was stepping into new territory or relaunching after setbacks.
I’ve faced financial challenges, the emotional weight of losing my father, and the frustration of being “ahead of my time.” Projects I poured my heart into crashed or didn’t gain traction because the market wasn’t ready. When the pandemic hit, my plans for both my business and nonprofit slowed to a crawl, and I had to start over — again.
Through it all, I learned that consistency beats confidence. Faith had to become my anchor, not my backup plan. I’ve learned to silence doubt with action, to rebuild with clarity, and to trust that even detours serve purpose. Every obstacle became training for the next level of impact.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a creative director and educator behind VYC Studios. I help small businesses, barbers/beauty professionals, and nonprofits turn ideas into clear, confident brands through my Brand UPP™ framework—Uncover, Position, Profit.
What I do: brand strategy, visual identity, photography, websites, cinematography, and content for launches and campaigns.
Known for: clean, confident visuals and clear messaging clients can actually use; before-and-after brand transformations; and faith-driven execution inspired by Work While It’s Day.
One thing I’m most proud of is becoming my own first client. Writing Work While It’s Day taught me to move from waiting on motivation to taking consistent action, and that transformation became the foundation of my Brand UPP™ framework. Through this process, I’ve watched my clients uncover who they are, position their message with clarity, and profit with confidence.
What sets me apart: I blend art, strategy, and teaching with a faith-anchored approach. Clients don’t just receive creative files—they gain clarity, a step-by-step plan, and the confidence to move.
I’ve intentionally downsized to deliver focused 1:1 work at VYC Studios and will host workshops—starting with my first Brand UPP™ Workshop on November 20th.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
