Meet Rhett Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhett Davis.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always enjoyed RC cars and helicopters, and when the kids came along, I often had a video camera in hand. When drones came out, it was the best of both worlds! After a decade of shooting for myself and giving my work away, I decided to obtain my Part 107 drone certificate and begin helping people solve their problems in the market.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting all of the business pieces in place takes time – deciding on a company name & logo, creating a website, filing for an LLC, opening a business bank account, obtaining insurance, and creating marketing materials. I started this February.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in aerial photography and videography. I’ve been flying for over ten years and have taken class after class on photography, video editing, photography & video software, and business. I’m proud of the level of skill I’ve attained and the shots I’ve been able to capture. The quality of my shots set me apart from others in that the light and color are right, and the video movements are super smooth.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk is essential to business. Many people settle for a low-risk job working for others, depending on them to risk their own capital to provide a stable income. The risk-takers are the ones who stand to gain the most but also expose themselves to more pain. My main risk has been using our own money to start my business, understanding that I may make it back and more or lose my investment altogether.
