I started The Vanity Room Skin Studio in October of 2019, right in the midst of a pandemic. My goal was clear from the very beginning: to bring the luxurious experience of skin services and treatments to black women. I began small, offering waxing services out of my den at home. Despite the challenges, I remained committed to providing exceptional service to my clients, and word spread quickly about the quality of my treatments.
As The Vanity Room gained popularity, I knew it was time to expand. I started renting out salon studios, allowing me to offer a wider range of services while still managing and running the business. Over the years, we have added more services to our repertoire, including laser hair removal, ensuring that we cater to the diverse needs of our clientele.
The decision to start my own business was deeply rooted in the desire for flexibility. I was working at the post office, but I found that it was causing me to miss out on important moments with my children. Determined to find a better work-life balance, I took a leap of faith and started The Vanity Room. This allowed me to prioritize my family while pursuing my passion for providing exceptional skincare services to women like myself.
Looking back, I am incredibly proud of how far The Vanity Room has come. It is a testament to my dedication, resilience, and the support of my clients. I am gratified to have created a space where black women can indulge in luxurious treatments and feel empowered. As we continue to grow and expand our offerings, I am excited to see how The Vanity Room Skin Studio continues to thrive and positively impact the lives of our clients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Over the last four years, my experience as a business owner has been a rollercoaster ride filled with ups and downs but with more ups on the board. It hasn’t been easy, and there have been times when I doubted myself and faced unexpected challenges. However, through it all, the journey has been incredibly rewarding. Every obstacle I faced has only made me stronger and more determined to succeed. The moments of triumph, big or small, have filled me with a sense of accomplishment and reaffirmed my belief in the power of hard work and resilience. While there are still challenges ahead, I am grateful for every step of this entrepreneurial rollercoaster and excited for what the future holds.

Yes, I tend to read a lot of business and self-help books. One of my favorite books to revisit is The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey, and any spa structure or strategy book I can get my hands on.
