Meet Shelsea Vazquez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelsea Vazquez.

Hi Shelsea, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember. I have this fond memory when I was in elementary school about how my classmates thought I traced out this drawing of an animal I made when I truly just looked at the picture and drew what I saw.

None of the kids believed me but instead of feeling frustrated about that, I felt so honored that they thought my drawing was too good for it not to be traced, lol. Fast forward to high school. I started taking art classes again which reconnected me to my love for art. I learned a couple of things along the way which includes drawing portraits of people. That became my favorite thing to draw.

In my senior year of high school, a boy broke my heart which led to me drawing out my feelings. That led to a whole different drawing style I didn’t even know I could do! When I was in college, I learned how to create digital portrait drawings and fell in love so fast. I graduated with an associate’s in Graphic Design.

I decided after that I wanted to freelance and that eventually led to creating the online shop I have today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wish I could say it’s been smooth but the hardest part is the lack of motivation and energy to even think about your side business sometimes. Working 45+ hours at my other job is very draining but it’s needed so I can pour some money into my passions.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So I create stickers, art prints, bookmarks, etc of my art.

I’m a digital and traditional realist artist and I specialize in drawing portraits. If I’m not drawing portraits then I’m usually drawing eye studies or something from the heart. Every new piece that I draw, I am most proud of so it’s honestly hard to choose a specific piece.

I feel like what sets me apart is the way i create art through music that inspires me by drawing how I interpret the lyrics.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about Knightdale is how it’s slowly growing before your eyes and becoming it’s own. I like how close by everything is and it’s honestly very calm. I don’t think I have any complaints when it comes to Knightdale.
