Today we’d like to introduce you to Sommore Terry.
Hi Sommore, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey has always been rooted in a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people. I began as an educator, and over the years, my love for teaching and dance grew into something even bigger. It gave me the opportunity to create a space where young dancers could learn, grow, and feel confident in who they are. That passion led me to become the owner and director of Creative Expressions Dance Academy, where I’ve been blessed to combine my love for education, mentorship, and dance. Today, I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but even more excited about the lives I’m able to impact along the way.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Building a business while also being a full-time educator has required a lot of sacrifice, long days, and learning as I go. There have been moments of doubt, financial challenges, and times when balancing everything felt overwhelming, but each challenge has helped me grow stronger as a leader and business owner. I’ve learned to trust God, trust the process, stay grounded in my purpose, and remind myself that the impact I’m making on my students and dancers makes every challenge worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an educator, dance instructor, choreographer, and the owner/director of Creative Expressions Dance Academy. Through CEDA, I specialize in developing dancers not only in technique and performance, but also in confidence, discipline, accountability, and character. I’m most proud of the environment we’ve created, one where dancers of all levels can feel seen, supported, challenged, and celebrated. What sets me apart is that I lead with purpose, passion, and faith. I am not only a dance studio owner and educator, but I am also a follower and believer of Christ, and my faith is embodied in everything we do at Creative Expressions Dance Academy. I strive to create an environment where dancers are not only challenged to grow in their technique and artistry, but also encouraged to grow in confidence, character, discipline, and grace. For me, dance is bigger than trophies and performances, it’s about pouring into the whole child and helping each dancer recognize the gifts and purpose God has placed within them.
What matters most to you? Why?
Five years ago, God placed a dream in my heart that was bigger than anything I could have imagined. I’m so grateful that He trusted me with the vision of becoming a dance studio owner and gave me the courage to step out on faith. What started as a dream has become a place where young dancers can grow in their gifts, confidence, and purpose. My personal “why” has always been the young people God has placed in my path. I want to be the person who sees something in them before they’re able to see it in themselves, the person who pushes them, encourages them, loves them, and reminds them that they are capable of more. Whether it’s in my classroom or my dance studio, I know that I’m helping shape more than students and dancers; I’m helping shape future adults, leaders, and dreamers. At the end of the day, the trophies, accomplishments, and recognition are special, but knowing that I made a difference in someone’s life will always mean the most to me. As I celebrate five years, I give God ALL the glory because without Him, none of this would be possible.
