Today we’d like to introduce you to Staci Stepp.
Hi Staci, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I experienced many adversities in my childhood. It was because of the caring people that showed up along the way that I realized the life-changing impact a supportive adult could have on a child. The caring and supportive adults that showed up in my life proved to me that despite my circumstances or what anyone else told me or did to me, I was still loved and special. I wanted to be that person for someone like someone was for me, so in 2018, I became a foster parent! Environment has also always been important to me. I believe in the power a person’s physical environment can have on them. I love to design and to create spaces that promote joy and well-being. When I was preparing the bedroom for my own foster children, I began to think it would be really cool if I could help other foster parents with the task of preparing a room for their foster placements! I wanted to create special spaces for them that gave positive affirmations showing them that they ARE special. Loved, cared for, and worthy of having a special space to call their own. Late in 2019, I began to start helping families prepare beautiful custom rooms for their foster or adopted children, and in 2021 Home Sweet Hope, a 501c3 non-profit was born! I have just finished gifting my 20th room, and I have no plans of slowing down anytime soon! With the support of the community, partnerships, and sponsors, the goal is to reach as many foster and adoptive children across Central NC as possible.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like with any dream or endeavor, there are always bumps along the way. However, Home Sweet Hope would not be where it is today without the obstacles endured. For every struggle, there is always a win because I am able to learn from the experience. I am also a person of strong faith, and it is that faith and relationship with God that has sustained me and keeps me moving forward. I have seen God work in the most amazing ways in this ministry, and I am very grateful and humbled to have a front-seat view of it all.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in interior design for children, babies, and teens. Specifically, gifting these designed rooms through Home Sweet Hope to the most vulnerable children in our society, which are those children who are experiencing foster care or adoption. I pride myself in not sticking with one specific designer style. I take the time to really get to know each child and/or the family so I can give them a room that is custom to their specific likes and needs.
Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Home Sweet Hope simply cannot do what we do without the continued support of others. The community, donors, partnerships, and sponsors are what makes the ship sail. We are always looking for like-minded people with a passion for foster care to lock arms with. If you are interested in a partnership or sponsorship, you can reach out to us at info@homesweethopenc.org.
