Today we’d like to introduce you to Tallula Tillman

Hi Tallula, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey is a bit unconventional. I initially aspired to pursue law, but I was always surrounded by the world of hair. Both of my aunts were hairstylists—one has since passed, and the other has retired—and my godmother is still in the industry today. Growing up, I was always around it, so it felt natural to learn. I taught myself how to braid, and my godmother really nurtured that talent, letting me braid the daughters of her clients while they waited and assisting her in the salon. As I got older, my passion for beauty only grew, and I started doing hair part-time. After going through a few life changes, I realized I wanted to take it more seriously, so I decided to get licensed. It’s wild to think that I’ve been licensed for nearly 11 years now. When I first came to Raleigh, I was still working part-time, but I have to give a huge shout-out to Justin from The Pretty Mane—he really mentored me and encouraged me to take a leap of faith and pursue my dream full-time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a single mother of two incredible children, I definitely struggled with mom guilt. I’m passionate about what I do, but if I’m being honest, I had an unhealthy work/life balance early on. I was constantly working and often overworking myself. My kids were either at the salon with me or being cared for by my wonderful support system.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a licensed salon-based stylist specializing in natural hair, with a focus on silk presses and protective styles. I’m a full-service stylist, meaning all you have to do is show up—I’ll take care of everything. Every service I offer includes a customized shampoo, and for all braid and twist services, I provide the hair as well. When clients book with me, they can relax knowing I’ve got everything covered.

I’m working on a few exciting projects right now, along with some new services that will be launching soon. Stay tuned—you won’t want to miss it!
