Meet Timothy Eaton of In A Minute Cleaning Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Eaton.

Hi Timothy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I must start off with a (chuckle) LOL… Growing up under my grandmother’s roof there are things that there is no question that you will inherit & incorporate into your life. Number one is RESPECT and number two is making sure your house is always presentable at all times and that means to keep it clean.

So when I graduated high school, I went to college and received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science Information Systems from Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC. As you know, most places want you to have experience which I did I interned at one of the most prestigious IT companies during that time, but of course I kept running into roadblocks for employment.

Fast forward, I finally received a job opportunity with a local college in Raleigh, NC. I noticed my talents and experience wasn’t being utilize as they should. So I began to think what if I became an owner of my own company. I pondered around with ideas but kept realizing cleaning always came back around during my thought process.

So as years passed, it’s now 2015 and my oldest son was slowly approaching graduating from high school and at that time he was uncertain of what he wanted to do. I wasn’t going to put the pressure on him to attend college,

So I wanted to let him know this is for him, we all know college isn’t for everyone. So I finally stop with all my brainstorming of what I wanted to do and went back to my roots and created In A Minute Cleaning Services, LLC.

So in a nutshell, I created this business to provide options and opportunity and to prevent less stress on my son with a big decision he would soon make upon graduation.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Most people when they see a black male the first thing I hear is “where are the women to clean” 😂. This is absolutely hilarious to me. I guess people think only men can do a job like this. That’s why I use the hashtag #MenCleanToo.

Also, another hurdle is I’m a local business, and most people go with a National known company versus a family-friendly smaller company.

My company is a Commercial and Residential cleaning services. We provide general cleaning for business of all kinds and homes, Air BnB, daycares, office spaces, and more. Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
It’s difficult finding mentors. A lot of people or companies “want it all”. So what I have done was become the Mentor. I now have spoken with several people doing the same thing I did brainstorm for years, but I’m an open book and share all I can with them or anyone who’s interested in this business.
