Meet Vonnie Martin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vonnie Martin.

Vonnie Martin

Hi Vonnie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I took a risk straight out of college and responded to a Design Consultant job ad for Norwalk the Furniture Idea in Strongsville, OH. The interview was full of the kind of questions you would expect to answer, and everything seemed to go well. Then, the interviewer gave me a little project to work on. I read a small paragraph of a scenario from a potential client and how they would like to improve their living room. I was asked to come up with a floor arrangement and pick out fabrics from the 1000s hanging on the wall beside me. I got in the car thinking that was the most fun I have had on an interview, and checked my cell phone. Many missed calls from my mom. I looked at the clock and had been there for hours! I was engulfed, and my love of design began. Since then, I was married and decided to stay home with our two children. I did little design projects here and there on the side for friends and other recommendations, which was a lot of fun. The time had come when my youngest started kindergarten, and I decided to get my real estate license and expand on my love of working with clients and their homes. I took a position work at Fonville Morisey in Cary and could not have picked a better firm to learn the ins and outs of the real estate business. My husband and I also took on a few large projects and bought, improved, and sold a couple investment properties through the years, including an incredible home on Badin Lake in New London, NC. Since then, I have been able to combine my skills and experience together under one roof and opened up Landing Place Realtors & Co, an a’ la carte real estate and design firm helping clients from simply organizing their personal pantry to purchasing, renovating, and decorating an investment property.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Time and balance have always been the largest struggle. As a realtor, there is no set schedule, and your client’s needs can often demand immediate attention, especially in the world of multiple offers that’s encompassed real estate the last couple of years. My husband travels for work, and we have two kids playing soccer at Wake FC (if you have ever had kids in travel sports, you know exactly what I mean!), but we love it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve never jumped on the bandwagon pushing clients through the efficiency pipe, handing them off from person to person to quickly get to the end goal. I’m not criticizing others’ processes; it’s just not my style. I like to be involved with my clients and projects…I may be a bit of a control freak, but I prefer it that way. This is an underlying principle to Landing Place Realtors & Co. and why we offer a range of services that can go beyond a typical real estate transaction. This is how we build trust with clients and provide assurances that the money invested in your home or investment property, before or after a home sale, is money well spent.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
My first visit to Raleigh was on a recruiting trip as a 17-year-old girl from Northeast Ohio. I visited NC State University and eventually ran with the Wolfpack in the late 90’s. Most of my time was spend on the brick campus, and I loved running the trails around all of the lakes. As a young mom, the kids and I were constantly enjoying the many park systems walking the trails, skipping rocks, and meeting friends at the playgrounds. The towns of Garner, Fuquay Varina, and Holly Springs offered many activities we enjoyed, like outdoor music, balloon festivals, and winding down at the libraries.

I love that our city sits between the mountains and the beach for those quick trips, something a family just doesn’t outgrow.
