Rising Stars: Meet Allen Tucker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allen Tucker.

Hi Allen, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Raleigh and have been here my whole life. I’ve always loved getting the chance to be creative. I was exposed to live music in the Raleigh scene at a young age and started playing music in a band myself when I was about 16. During that time, I enjoyed watching videos/pics of myself and the band at the end of every set. This made me want to get on the other side of the camera and get those really cool shots of others, giving them the same feeling I felt. During the Covid shutdown, like many others, I had a lot of time to turn a hobby into something more, and I started my own media business. Over the past couple of years (this past year especially), I’ve started to feel a sense of confidence in my work and focus on what I like and not what other people want from me – for lack of better words. I love music, fashion, and sports and the chance to tell the stories of passionate people in those areas. I’m thankful for the relationships I’ve made in North Carolina and beyond, which have made me a better photographer and creative person.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs. Bring self taught, and starting a business definitely has its challenge. Starting a business and growing it online definitely has its challenges. I’ve been very broke and thought about giving up multiple times, but through trial and error and great friends/mentors, I’ve always found ways to grow and keep going. I’m thankful I’ve found something I love doing and can be a job.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a bit of a jack of all trades, which is good and bad. I’m a photographer, a videographer, and an all around creative mess of a person. Settling on one niche has its benefits. People will think you’re the expert in that one thing, and you get to focus all your energy on the area. I have a hard time saying no, haha. I love creating memorable moments. Whether it’s shooting a music video, photographing D1 sports, or general lifestyle/branding sessions, I’m open to a conversation. I’m more known or like to think anyways for the relationship I build with my clients. I want to be someone they trust and enjoy working with, regardless of the project. I’ve been published a few times in a fairly short amount of time doing this work, and that’s pretty cool. I never thought id find my work in magazines, but I’m honored. Honestly, even the fact that I’m getting interviewed now is wild—Shoutout, 3amsound, for love. One of the best artists coming out of NC

We love to hear about any fond memories you have from growing up.
I can’t think of one super amazing moment. My childhood was great, and I’m thankful for that. Some nostalgic memories are walking to Blockbuster and renting a new game or movie to watch on a Friday night with friends. We take streaming for granted now, that’s for sure lol.
