Rising Stars: Meet Alyson Hadley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyson Hadley.

Hi Alyson, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started out receiving my Herbalist Certification from the Appalachia School of Holistic Herbalism in Asheville, NC in 2009. After working with clients in the herb clinic there, it became alarmingly clear that most common complaint and cause of “dis-ease” is stress. In the herb clinic, people wanted an easy fix much like our medical system- just give me a supplement or pill- without making any other changes to our lives.

I knew that if I wanted to help people, it had to be something that relieved stress and massage seemed like the perfect way to use my herbal background in a way that also “forced” people to take time out from their stressful day and to relax, even if it was only for an hour.

After massage school, I had various jobs that didn’t really quite fit. I realize now that they just weren’t the right place for me- which is a lesson to anyone feeling stuck at the “wrong job”. When things are hard, you have to make a decision ” should I stay or should I go?” and you have to ask yourself, is this the right place for me? Is this job worth fighting for? Or is there something better out there?

For me, it meant moving on, which was really difficult to leave the security of a steady income. But once I made the decision to go to Mobile Massage everything just sort of fell into place. I am able to make my own hours and truly dedicate my time to my clients. Mobile Massage saves you from having to drive home after your massage and to relax in the comfort of your own home.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The thing I struggle with the most is just being one person. There are only so many appointments that I can do in a day. Massage is hard work and carrying equipment on top of that is a lot. I have developed unique ways to “pack light” while still being able to have oils and crystals that I love to use. I even came up with a travel hot stone system because I love working with them so much and my clients love them too.

Raleigh traffic can be a lot sometimes but that is the whole reason I do this – so that my clients don’t have to.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Licensed Massage Therapist, certified Reiki 2 practitioner, Certified Crystal Healer, Certified Prenatal Therapist, Certified Herbalist, and Tarot Card Reader. I make my own herbal-infused massage oil and use crystals as massage tools. I combine all of these different modalities that create a unique healing experience for my clients. The convenience of Mobile Massage encourages a regular massage routine. I believe that consistency is key to bodywork and really brings results. Taking that time out for yourself at home instead of in between running errands is really committing to a self-care routine. At home, you can take a bath, cook a healthy meal, read a book, take a nap, or enjoy some family time after your massage.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
When my massage business had to close last year, I learned a lesson that I think a lot of people learned. I had to figure out who I was as a person without work. We spend the majority of our waking hours working and when you are self-employed, it feels like 24/7 most of the time. To have that all come to a screeching halt was scary to say the least.

It was frustrating for me to know that the world needed stress relief and I couldn’t do anything about it. I knew that I still wanted to help in some way. With my free time, I wrote, designed, and published the Just a Phase Moon Planner that teaches you how to follow the moon cycles and get in touch with your own cycle.

My mission with the Planner and Massage is still the same- getting in sync with your body and its rhythm as well as natural cycles to help you heal in a way that is whole- mind, body and spirit.

I am so grateful for the support of this community and know that I would not still be in business today if it wasn’t for my clients. They kept me afloat while we all managed this strange time. It is heartbreaking so see other massage businesses closing. The only reason I am still here is because of my clients and their support.
